I just want to make sure I understand this... the Toyota OEM aux tank will not fit on a US 100 without modifications to either the tank or moving the charcoal canister... correct?

Correct because for some reason or another, Toyota moved the charcoal canister on '03+ US market 100's. Not sure which other markets but for sure not the Middle East nor Oceania.
Got it... so it's just an issue on 03+ models then?
My sender is under the red cap on top of the tank... but I do not know where it is located on the Long Ranger tank.

I got mine from Man A Fre. Part # LR24100RAX. I think it is identical to hoser's Also see post # 25 on this thread about my installation. Clearance is not an issue. It sits below the fram rails by 2 inches closest to the rear diff, and angles up and out of site. You can not even see it from the side or rear unless you bend down and look up.
No, I don't experience that. My guess it is likely one of the larger top/bottom panels on the tank. The bottom could be braced with reinforcement plate.... or you can try reducing the noise by throwing on some of that stick-on sound deadening material (as seen on stainless steel sinks).Happy except for an incredibly annoying thunk, and pop sound that intermittedly comes from the aux tank... Anyone have the same problems? any solutions such as more bracing?
DesertRun,
I have experienced that noise in a different aux tank in an 80 Series. When it is hot out and it has a lot of vapor it will make the tank flex a little bit and will make that noise. Maybe you need a better venting system.
I have a different issue, same tank as hoser in a 1999 100 Series. When its hot out or at altitude AND off-road my charcoal canister can't keep up to a point that gas will spill out when I open the gas cap.
I am sorry for the thread hijack (I think)![]()
Thanks for the replies about pressure build up. I have racked my brain over this one. It may be time for a new thread titled "Aux Tank Pressure Build Up". In any case In two years I have not had any gas purging when I remove the cap, but my tank makes expansion noise all the time. Even sitting in the garage not driven for days. It has to be pressure from vapor. I know the cap is important in keeping the right pressure in the tank. In fact I have heard people complain of warning lights or codes with bad caps although I have never had it happen. I will change the cap to see if the pressure release is somehow failing to regulate it correctly. One other note, I keep the aux tank empty most of the time, since I do not worry about condensation and the truck is garaged in southern ca where the temp is mild, but that may be an issue also.I've not had gas purge at the cap although I think Rohitash's did on the Coyote Flats trip last summer. But I do have significantly more pressure build up which is to be expected I guess since I doubled the amount of vapor the charcoal canister has to process. I wonder if there's a venting difference between our set-ups that might explain this issue?
Probably time, as a cheap prudent measure, to replace the charcoal in the canister.
