A quick search and I made a list of whether it was the R&P that broke or the diff carrier gears (side gears). Feel free to add to it.

Campfire '98--broken R&P
Snook '00--broken R&P
Boris G '02--broken R&P
5150 Broadway '99--3x 1) broken side gears 2) broken R&P 3) installed 4-Pin diff, then broke R&P

Its the gear that broke not the differential. ARB would not help in this case.

Not true. The carrier flexes, the contact is not linear and boom, gears start to break.

One correction: Snook has broken his twice. Andy Watson can also be added to the list, though he rarely posts.

The 4 pinion carrier are pretty beffy. I could not understand how it could flex. Unless the 3rd member housing itself is the one that flex. Looking at ARB carrier and the 4 pinion carrier I could not see substantial difference housing size and flange thickness.

So are ARB really stonger or its just because the ability to lock make people easier on the go pedal? If the ARB are left in the unlock position and the driven the same way would it also survive?

OK, I did break the R&P of the REAR diff, but I did shear off the pinion shaft of the front diff which in turn took out the side gears, etc...
Thanks Hoser, I was almost over that little ski trip.
