On a 2001 model without a factory hitch receiver and currently factory rear bumper, what is a good aftermarket option for light duty use?
I will just be mounting a bike rack and don't want to go with the whole factory like set up.

2 options: 1) install the frame crossrail-mounted 2" square receiver that protrudes through the bumper, 2) install a Class III/IV under-bumper receiver from Curt or Draw-Tite from eTrailer or any similar seller. I assume you're not in the market for a distant option 3, which is an offroad steel bumper with a built-in receiver. Not sure what you mean by "factory like setup."

Also: Hitch Receiver, OEM Through Bumper - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/hitch-receiver-oem-through-bumper.1008802/. Search is your friend ;)

Option 1 - requires cutting a hole in your bumper cover (assuming you don't have one); mounts a little higher so no departure angle change; less towing capacity if you ever need it; harder to access the cross-hole for a locking pin; deeply inserted hitches will hit the spare tire; cheaper.

Option 2 - no modifications required, sturdier setup; easy to use; big steel bar hanging under your bumper; first make sure your threaded hitch mounting points on the frame rails are in good condition. If they have never been used, you might need to chase the rust out with a cleaning tap. If you go this route, might as well run the trailer wiring harness since you're 90% of the way to towing.

There's no factory hitch, just port/dealer installed under frame ones, so not sure what "factory like" set up it is you're wanting to avoid. If you want to cut your bumper, there's a slot behind it for a simple receiver piece. If you don't, then find a frame mount hitch in local classifieds used, online vendor, or Uhaul.

This is the one I want, but unfortunately the Draw-Tite version is on backorder with no ETA. Only the Curt/U-HAUL version with the boxed in exhaust pipe are in stock anywhere.

I have the Curt. It’s a little bulkier looking when installed but works great with my 1UP rack.
