Just bought a 2001 LX470 with 55,000 miles. It's a CA car with no rust. Appears to have had all recommended service at designated times and a PPI with nothing noted.

I'll be driving it in WI winters so, I want to rustproof it properly. Cosmoline or Fluid Film?

It has not had any major repairs done. What should I consider if I want it to be reliable for 250k miles? Radiator, steering rack, master cylinder, heater-t's, cv axles, bearings, etc.? Or, I guess, just drive it until it needs something.

BTW, timing belt and water pump done recently.

Lemme have it. :)

Welcome. Hopefully you checked the Carfax, been a couple low mile CA scam vehicles lately. Anyway, if you search "preventative maintenance", limited to titles only, 100 section only, dozens of threads to read. I'd do heater t's, not a common failure, but one that can leave you stranded and kill the motor if you're not paying attention. Other than that, drive it.

Congrats! Here’s a recent useful post, although low mileage many items may require inspection some more urgent than others as per aforementioned reply. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Heater T’s, I am a big fan of fluid film. Check how old battery is. I would read about the AHC on this site and see what is recommended.

Quick question, I noticed a lot of discussions on heat tee but not many on the replacement options. I saw this on CruiserPatch and brought it for my next project as my tee and tinning belt is now 5 years old. Some recommending replacing tee with timing belt but appears sooner the better. These brass got to be a permanent solution especially OEM but not seen much discussion on them? Also any fluid film avail for DIY as Im in So Cal no such shop available for this kind of services. Thanks!

Wasn't sure how to go about a search... but now I do. Thanks! Clean CarFax BTW.

Everyone always brings up Fluid Film, but never Krown. Is Fluid Film better?

I used Krown on mine last winter for the first time so I have no idea tbh. Wondering if I should switch.
