My driver side seat will raise but when under load from a driver the right rear corner collapses causing a tilted seat. I’ve done a reset and can feel the motor operating when controls are pressed, but it won’t hold a load. The left side is stout with zero movement under load. Assuming it’s a gear box failure but is there any advice before I buy parts?

Tried to upload vid but nogo

Seat was taken out and inspected. Unable to identify an obvious problem. All connections are good and the seat will raise and lower under electrical power it’s the back right corner that collapses under weight. The back left holds.

I have a vid to upload but can’t seem to get it attached? Trying a google photos link?

All the motors click and move the worm drive gears. The same corner will raise without any load, but it falls when weight is placed on seat. Zero broken external framing. Will try removing the seat height transmission box and inspect that gear.

I noticed it about 6months ago and just haven’t got around to checking it out. Someone else was driving and I noticed the seat frame squat when they sat in the driver seat. I couldn’t identify any broken welds or frame. The worm gear doesn’t slide up and back when I press on the slides to make it collapse. I assume that would indicate the drive gear in the transmission housing ok, but other than that I’m at a loss.

Question: Have your seats been redone in the past? There are 2 bolts toward the rear of the seat on each side that are a PITA to get. Possibly were left out? Picture attached.

Yes, The previous owner did have front seats recovered. I’ll give it a comparison from the schematic. Thx.

Those bolts tie the seat to the bottom frame. After you stretch the new upholstery on you have to cut 2 small holes through the fabric and line up the holes. It can be a challenge to force the seat deep enough in the frame to get the holes to lineup so you can get the bolts in. I had to have my 250lb friend sit in the seat to get it to go. 2:55 of this video:

Looks like there’s a broken weld. Poor lighting but as best I can see this should be a fixed point and appears to have had been welded

The seats in the 100 series are horrendously complicated. I took one of mine apart and completely cleaned the tracks, rails, re-greased everything I could. The motors are tired, but they still work, its just slow to recline. but I remember spending probably 6-8 hours on it, it wasn't fun.

I got it figured and fixed. The still shot with red arrow above was the culprit. Tiny little spot weld that held that spindle in a fixed spot. Hit it with a MIG welder and locked it position with plenty of material. Holds like it should and still operates well for 25 yrs old. Other than a few days downtime, it didn’t cost a dime.

Thanks for input and time fellas.
