2000 Land Cruiser Prado TX bonnet (hood) fails to lock or stay latched

Hi all!
My bonnet mechanism is not locking/latching. Imbricate it but no help. The bonnet opener latch inside is still pulled. Any help will be appreciated.

Clean it up and lube it.

Also, this is not the Prado forum.

i would just buy a new OEM latch mechanism. that thing is never going to work right ever again with that rust on it

Id loosen it up with a screwdriver....lube it....make sure its moving freely. It should tension the cable at that point if the cable is not broken. Luckily you have the hood up in case.

White lithium grease. I have to do this once in a while on my 5th Gen 4Runner rear latch.
Edit: if you’re unable to get your pull lever to reset, you may have a bad cable too.

Where I can get the smaller bottom spring. Anyone know the specs so that I can buy it in Canada?

For the spring - are there Ace Hardware stores in Canada? Or can you find a spring online?

You might remove the entire latch and soak it in mineral spirits and clean it with a toothbrush. Then inspect it for wear and clean/lube or just replace it.

Hard to find full assembly but yes will try to find it.
