1st Question- Has anyone here registered a really old vehicle in GA? Old enough that GA doesn't issue titles for it? I'm trying to register my '53 Willys, which was last registered in TN, and I'm not getting any good info from the DMV.

2nd Question which is somewhat related- Does anyone know the law on registering a vehicle in the county in which a second home is located? I'm thinking it may be much easier to register the Willys and eventually all our familys cruisers in Fannin County where our lake house is rather than in Fulton. I see vehicles around here (Buckhead) regularly that are obviously registered in a county which is not the owners primary residence.

Thanks for the help!

to register you need to go to the county in which you are trying to register it w/ some proof of residency (power bill etc). Changing countys only really changes emissions testing or not any maybe tax rates but not much else. In the '53 emissions are irrelevant ant it isn't "worth" enough for the tag fees to be an issue.

Because of its age you should only need a Bill of Sale to get a title for the truck. They should give you a new title regardless of how old it is but it is The State.

Even though it's not that big a deal to get the Jeep registered in Fannin, the tax/ emissions add up for our other vehicles, so we didn't want to register another one in Fulton if we were going to eventually move them to Fannin.

Dad (a lawyer) looked up the statute this morning and the law states that vehicles should be registered at the residence where a homestead exemption is claimed, however, can be registered at other addresses if that is the location of the vehicles primary usage. Primary usage is defined as the vehicle is located at that address at least 184 days a year.

Since we've barely had the lake house 184 days, looks like we're just going to register it in Fulton since it won't make much difference for the jeep anyway.

I've seen that page, glad I don't need a title, because I don't have one. :D Do have a Bill of Sale so we should be good there.

Thanks for the help Mike.
