my 78 piggy has a vin tag inside the left fendes. vinyl rear bench seat and not Oem front seats.

My '78 has the original cloth interior. I dig it, would love to be able to duplicate the pattern.
Edit. (Disclaimer..I suppose that I cannot 100% confirm it is original. It appears to be original. Looks very old , is extremely worn, Nothing has really ever been done to the truck, its been sitting for many years. No signs that it has been redone in any way.)

I would say your seat covers are not original. The give away are the headrests being the original vinyl and not matching the seats.

I thought about that. Maybe you are right. Was thinking that possibly all the headrests are grey to match the standard interior and there were maybe a couple of options for the cloth/vinyl. The fabric is so fried and brittle that I can't see how it was replaced and then got to this point. Nothing else cosmetic/interior wise has been done to the truck. Nothing else replaced or taken care of so it just doesn't seem like the seats would have been done. Unless someone else has a '78 with cloth, i am probably wrong on this. Seats sure look 37 years old!

My 78 has cloth seats, and the headrests matches the vynal on the back of seat. Also has a cargo mat that matches the cloth. I think it was an option.

Can you post a couple of pictures? Would like to see if the pattern is similar to mine. Are yours a cloth/vinyl combo like mine or all cloth?
Thanks.
