1UZ-FE & H55F in a 1984 BJ40

hi

bought a 1984 BJ40 in North Borneo (Sabah, Malaysia) last January.

Contemplating a 1UZ-FE (4.0L Quad-Cam V8) and mating it to a H55F (5-speed manual).

Yes, I know the bell-housing does NOT fit. Does anyone in this forum know which bell-housing I could use to bolt right up to the 1UZ-FE?

Which model of flywheel from the Toyota range could/should I use as this 40 is 70% street & 30% off-road (steep hill ascents & obstacle course). I'm thinking one from a manual transmission hooked up to the 1HD-T or 1 HD-FT. Will this fit?

Is there a lower gear set available for the split style TC bolted on to the H41/H55F?

just found out a 5-speed manual from a diesel 80 (HDJ81) does not fit at least just the bell-housing.

The manual tranny behind the 2UZ-FE found in the UZJ105 however does seem to be the one.

working on where to get one at a good bargain.

You might try looking on Pirate's board. Look under the Toyota truck section. There is a guy on there talking about the same stuff I think.

There are companies in Australia that make adapters for what you want to do. Look in the hardcore section

I currently have a H41 mated to a 2B diesel. Plan to keep this BJ40 all stock and as original as possible- will try and hook H41 to 1UZ-FE by locally fabricating an adaptor plate.


Screamin short-stroke V8 coupled to a low-geared manual transmission. Can't wait to see if this can become reality.

Reviving this thread...we had a fellow make us a bellhousing to do this. He built one to mate a marine 1UZ to a H55F. I'll get a pic up here as soon as possible.

To be a bit more clear...he did this combination and had the jig built for the bell. He made us one after his was done. Very cool. I'll get a pic posted. Its going in a 1985 FJ60.

you can use W58 (I think it's adapter for gear box using in toyota crown (super saloon) 1985 this adapter originally came with gear box and 5M engine here in Iraq using this adapter when you have gear box (H55) and you need to replace the original engine (3F or 2F) with 1UZ or 2UZ engine. this adapter (W58) can used with another kind of engine (like cummens 101 and 102) or (Kia engine J3 using in Kia Carnivall) I'm sorry for my language but I hope this helpful.

Were you successful in obtaining one? I'm very interested in swapping a 1UZ or 2UZ into a few of my 6cyl Land Cruisers, but I'm having a difficult time coming up with a "road map." Any info you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

A buddy got a quote for a Dellow kit back in 2018. They were a bit tricky to communicate with from what he told me.
