Hi all - Looking to get my HDJ81's fuel pump adjusted for a GTurbo installation. I have a line on someone local that I like who can do the work, but their backlog / timing might be an issue. Looking for any recommendations for a shop that would make the necessary pin and setting adjustments to get the truck running properly on the new turbo.

I'm in North Carolina, but I would tow / travel to get to the right vendor. I'm not sure if anyone on the east coast is even touching these at the moment?

Grateful for any / all help & guidance.

Cheers!

I'm in Ohio, but its really pretty simple to make the adjustments, anybody that does VW or cummins should know what to do. Want to have EGT gauge working first though.

EGT and Boost are installed and ready. I am holding off on swapping the turbo because it seems Ill advised to drive around without the pump adjusted.

I've read though several guides like the one attached, would just love to chat with someone that has done it before first hand I guess.

If anyone out there has street tuned a 1hd-t and is open to a call I'd love to talk tips and tricks for a few minutes with you.

no harm in putting the turbo on first, you just may not make much more power with it until your pump is turned up. intercooled?

Non intercooled, this fella: Toyota Landcruiser HD-G333 Titan - GTurbo - https://gturbo.com.au/product/toyota-landcruiser-hd-g333-titan/

Wastegate is for 22psi - GTurbo's recommendation.

I just wouldn't want it running into factory fuel cut or something constantly.
gturbo's recommendation with no intercooler? sounds pretty hot. I would try it out lower if you get more springs with it. There is no factory fuel cut like a gas motor. The pump does limit fuel when there isn't enough boost though. if you don't have enough fuel you wont make the boost your wastegate is set at. The guide you posted is a good one.

I would think any diesel tuner should be able to do this. Most older diesels are similar.

If you upgrade just the turbo, you'll have more air being fed in. Your AFR will go up ( lean). Lean AFRs in a diesel equals safe, low combustion temps, low EGTs.

You may or may not see more power just changing the turbo and not touching the pump. Depends, if you are already running a smokey tune, more air from a fresh turbo could increase power output.

Early denso VE pumps would go into a fuel cut state if you exceed ~15psi.
The aneroid rod can push past max fuel, and start reducing fuel delivery at high boost.
Some later pumps had washers in the boost comeback to stop the aneroid pin pushing past max fuel setting.

There's loads of pics on the net of pins with wear marks that go past the max fuel position.

Morgan Hill at Piedmont Performance Diesel and Offroad, just N of Greensboro knows domestic diesels well and has worked on some Toyotas. He would likely be able to tune on your pump; definitely worth a call. Or go visit @mudgudgeon

I tried him a few times last week - didn't hear back but that's not uncommon in my experience with shops like these. I'll try him again this week.

FYI for posterity - I got in touch with Morgan at Piedmont Performance Diesel. He was not able to assist.

Still working the Mudgudgeon, H&H and YouTube University angles.
