Hi All,

I'm about to transplant a coil pack 1fz-fe into my 80 and I need some advise. I was told I could wire the distributor trigger lines to the crank and cam angle sensors, the dizzy has two triggers inside which in the are replaced by the crank and cam angle sensors, and then fire all coils at once using the original coil trigger lines. Can anyone advise me if this will work?

Are you doing just a coil pack conversion or the whole engine? Sorry, I wish I could be more help.

I'm replacing the whole engine but I'm trying to avoid changing the wiring loom.

So you're putting a 100s 1FZFE engine into a previously equipped 1FZFE 80s'???
I looked at converting my 80s to coil pack and sequential injection but boy was it going to be a lot of work and $$$!!!

Your post is a little unclear. It sounds like you want to retain the 80s wiring harness. If so, it may be heaps easier to to use the 100 harness as well if it will plug into it. I'm just guessing here, but I suspect you'll have to change the ECU under the dash as well as that would have all the fuel injection/timing programs to run the coil packs. Unless the 80s unit can handle it.

A bit more info and detail would go a long way to getting a more specific answer.

Hi Guz,

I have a 1996 80 series with a stock fuel injected 1fz-fe and a A440F auto both a bit tired. I picked up a 100 series 1fz with 130K (KM) on the clock cheap and although I've got the loom and ecu it would cost a bit to have them installed. I will say up form that I'm not that great with wiring but aside from the coil packs you could it's the same engine.

I would really like to avoid the cost and time of rewiring the car and woould like to know if the trigger wires from the dissy could be connected to the cam and crank position sensors and used to fire the coil packs.

This would save a lot of time, money and effort in swapping out the engine.

Any wiring gooroos out there ??????

You really need to tell us what country you are in. That will really tell us if we can help you or not. Most of the folks here are North America members meaning that we only received the "regular" 1FZ-FE and not the coiled 1FZ that other markets received after 1998.

We are not going to be able to help you much with any type of conversion like this because, as far as I know, no one has done this conversion here in the States. If they have, they have not advertised it on MUD.

The Venezuelan/Australian/Middle Eastern forums specific to Land Cruisers will be a much better place to start for information regarding a swap.

Or, do it yourself and post up your results. We'll all be very interested.

:)

Thanks Guys,

Australia, here we had 100 series with 1fz's until 2001 I think. I think it's the same coil pack setup you guys got in the 75 series. I under the impression that the coil pack engines run a waste spark system so the coils all fire at once. I'm hopping that I can setup the dizzy wires to fire the coils in the same way.

I would appreciate any advice you can give.

So they are dual output coils? Even so, you would have to get them timed properly or you would have some nasty timing related issues.

wasted spark would not be a problem but getting the correct timing and advance would be. you would proably have to run the 100 ecu because that has all the timing parameter as well as fuel delivery which may or may not be different. eather spend the money or try and see what happens, it sounds like a good plan, hopefully it will work

It's not u unreasonable to think the 80s loom couldn't be adapted to run the coils. I really recon your best bet is to find a swithed on auto electrician or someone who specialises in aftermarket fuel management systems as they'd have a really good idea as to what wires can be used for what.

A few years ago I was looking at fitting an Autronic engine management system and the tech guy I was talking to was really switched on. I suggest you give someone like them a call and suss it out. The bonus is you can show them the schematic wiring diagram for the fuel injection that's in the landcruiser FSM and he might even be able to show you in a few minutes what to do or, at worst, cost a couple hundred dollars for him to get it sorted for you. Still a s***load cheaper than having to wire in the whole 100s ECU and harness that's for sure.

Sorry I can't be of more help at this point but do let us know how you go.

Contact Frank Diaz of Land Cruiser Heaven. He didit with my 80.
The OP probably got his issues sorted out sometime within the past 9 years since they posted this. and they also haven't been active on the forum since the day after...

Damn Zombie threads....:hungover:

Hello, sorry if i am writing in the wrong place, i always read this forum but i never understand how forums works XD whatever... i am in Venezuela, i am about to starting a project to convert my carbureted 80 to a Coil on Plug using everything original from toyota, none aftermarket part from thirdparty. Using part of the stock engine harness, stock ECU from a 1FZ-FE coil pack version (3 coil). And some other mods to add in this engine. I will post all the process as soon i can in my Instagram Page @fg_offroad and @Fran4500 I only work Toyota Land Cruiser 70 & 80 since many years... Thanks and sorry if i broke some rule
