so I have a 1993 triple locked cruiser that was going to get a engine swap (knocking engine) but I was able to purchase a very nice 97 for very cheap price due to some trail damage but only 200k miles and engine is very healthy. I decided I will keep the 97 and sell the 93.
After reading through this forum and many others , I wanted to see if other held similar opinions or if they have changed.
Should I sell the truck with the locking axles and just buy Harrop elocker? or sell the truck for cheap without axles ?
If I save the axles do I just follow the guide on things to pull to for them in the 97, is there any big issues going from obd1 to obd2?
P.S the lockers seem to work but I believe those axles have well over 350k on them don't think they ever used the lockers based off of the previous owners (bought the truck as a project so didn't drive it much or take it off road)

Keep the 200k mike axles and fit TJM Prolocker, or Harrop, or ARB.

I've had oem lockers in two vehicles, and retrofitted them in one.
I liked them, they work just fine. My current 80 will get TJM Prolockers at some point

One advantage of swapping entire axles is you have time to strip and refresh the entire axle assemblies from hub to hub while they are out of the vehicle. If you regeared at the same time, you have fresh, zero mile axles.
If your 97 isn't a daily driver, you can still do this.

Whichever option you go with, you have some wiring to run, and/or air lines, compressor etc to set up.

The diff lock system doesn't interact with the engine ECU, it's a stand alone system. OBD1, OBD11 will have no bearing

I like the OEM lockers, they should be plug and play as far as the wiring gos.
Like @ Mudgudgeon said fully rebuild them before installing them.
I think they make your rig worth more and there the only lockers that I know of that can be manually, engaged and disengaged.

Here's a link to an old thread with some posts of mine describing what is needed to swap in locked axles.

Changing Factory Lockers

If the '97 is a Lexus it will have the wires for a locker in the big harness that runs down the driver's side. If it's a Land Cruiser it won't have the wires. Your best approach would probably be to add 5 wires alongside the harness. The '93-'94 big harness would not be a direct swap into a '95-'97. The smaller harnesses along the back sill and to the lockers should swap from a '93 to a '97.
