Just did this to remove the fuel pump (I'm parting out a '92). Yes, you need to remove the second row seats and pull back the carpet. It's not too difficult....14mm bolts. There are three small phillips-head screws holding on the cover plate and then you'll need an 8mm socket wrench to undo the 8 small bolts holding the fuel pump assembly in place. But before you take those out, use a 14mm socket to undo the banjo bolt on the fuel line. PM me if you have any questions....

It's 4 bolts per seat. Not a big deal. Would be a PITA to fight the carpet, risk spilling fuel on it, etc for another 5 minutes of work.

Will do. Thanks! Going to be changing out the fuel pump filter soon.

Its good to take both seats out as well, you break the bolts free, that way when you have to do it again in 15 years it isn't as bad and welding isn't required. I've got a special fuel tank access panal. And its a good idea to get 8 new screws as well.

Take both out. Very easy to do, just take out the front bolts first and take out and reinstall them while folded up so the tension is off the springs.

There are two 14mm blots in the front and two in the back. They are covered by plastic covers that you need to pull off. Pictured below are my seats out with the access area exposed.

You're a bit late to the game. 4 years 2 months and 28 days late actually. ;)

And still didn’t figure out the real problem, so now wondering if I am going to be $500 in the hole for a whole new in tank pump replacement.

??? I just noticed your revival of this old thread. Not sure what else you may have discussed about whatever problem you are dealing with. But you obviously know how easy it is to get to the pump. And you can get about a buck fifty... Or less. So, why are you looking at 5 bills?
