I bought my son his first vehicle a fj80 in good shape from my boss. We have went through all the maintenence but I came having one last problem. Also I am a hvac tech very familiar to wiring and meters.
My left rear turn signal is not getting 12v. The front signal blinks fast and the rear is dead. I have checked to the side ground, chassis ground and the rear back up light ground. I checked the wiring before the plug. The wires go from green/yellow to green/black with 2 silver stripes that is next to impossible to follow. I also replaced the flasher as a non scientific try lol

My questions are where does the power come from for the rear signal and does it split off the front somewhere?
what reads the resistance to make it blink fast?
The bulb is a 1156 fyi and new in the rear.
Is there anywhere to get a wiring diagram? I read these all day at work.

Thank you in advance. My 15 year old is very excited to get this going.

The attached Wiring diagrams are from a '97 LX450 but from a lighting perspective the wiring should be similar to the FJ80 or FZJ80 for all years. I believe there is also an Electrical Wiring Diagram (EWD) available through the search function here on MUD. Just need to be creative and persistent in your search terms :) .

Additionally, I would look to see if there is a trailer light converter box tucked up in the right rear corner of the truck, either underneath, or in the RR fender well behind the access cover panel inside the truck. They are dealer/port installed accessories and are notorious for causing electrical headaches with rear turn signals and brake lights. If it is there, remove it back to factory wiring for troubleshooting purposes.

The Hopper box is dead, go to Uhaul and have them install a brake/signal hopper box problem solved :flipoff2: and welcome to the grind

Calling @OverlandDad If you have not already looked at these, you need to.

Thread revival. I'm getting my 80 back on the road after a 2-year sit in the driveway. Everything is relatively normal, but today I had the right rear turn signal die on a shakedown drive. It worked when we left the house, but died half way through the drive. I pulled the eTrailer wiring block (that I'd started at some point but never finished connecting) out and connected the RR turn signal wiring directly back to the only connectors that had GY, G, wires in them. Bulb is checked and good, but that RR signal will not come back on. Any ideas of the next step to get this working again?

It's a light bulb. You need +12 and ground to make it light.
The wiring diagrams for your vehicle are free to download from the resources section, but here's a snip of the hazard/turn signal circuit.
