As strange as this may sound, my first project was going to be the running boards, but they've really grown on me. Now I'm torn

This shift boot, however, was really bugging me

Hey man. Give me a shout if you ever need anyone to help on projects. All I ever do is work on my 87. It's my daily driver. There's parts that turn up every once and a while too so if you need anything. Just holler. Nice soft top by the way. I'm dying for one of those

I'm also super jealous of your original shifter ball. I've been able to find the tcase one. But I can't find the trans shifter ball to save my life. I make due with an aluminum Marlin crawler one for now. But the hunt continues

Slight update to this, been driving the heck outta this thing. Tundra has been sitting up. Yesterday, while driving around 60 miles round trip, it developed a bad steering wobble over 35 mph. the wobble seems to go away when turning left. I check the tires for an egg, but found none. No visible sign of a problem. Next thoughts? Wheel bearing? I don't hear anything, toe in/out seems appropriate. Tires are new.

As a side note, not long after the bad wobble, it also exhibited a miss and a rough idle (thing runs smoother than the tundra other than that). Diagnosis, the wobble caused a spark plug wire to jump off the coil. Was running on 3 cyl.

its the tie rod on the passenger side based on what I saw, how many banana job we talking here? And suggestions on brand of tie rod ends?

Slight update,

Did the tie rods this weekend. In case anyone is actually reading this for tech, I STRONGLY suggest buying a tie rod puller for $16 prior to starting this project. My ends looked to be OEM and were 30 years old. I started on the passenger side and the inner came right out. The outer got beat on with a small ball peen, a larger one, then a sledge, a pickle fork, etc for a couple hours, till I broke down and went and got the puller. I started to tighten down with the ratchet and it popped out so quickly I didn't realize what happened. Elapsed time passenger side 3+ hours hard labor, driver side with puller, 20 minutes.

Guys,

need help diagnosing something. Getting a fuel smell near the fuel tank. I have my assumptions that its a problem with the fill neck, I think it drips when filling. Any thoughts on this? Also, for the life of me, I can not find an 87 fuel fill neck anywhere on line in a parts store, any help?

like keeping updates on this vehicle here so I can look back at the time line later. about two weeks ago, my 4 year old and I were on a lowes mission when we got the dreaded overheating. pulled the truck over and noticed significant steam. Walked home with the 4 yr old (two miles), no complaints from the little trooper. Ended up being the pump to pipe hose, no big deal.

however, in diagnosing I noticed one of my CV boots is ripped. How much of a job is that?
