I bought this truck last week and finally picked her up last night. bone stock 1987 SR5 4runner. Been looking for one for a while, but everyone is generally hacked up and pieced randomly and wrongly back together. This one is fairly pristine. The guy started some work, but just let it sit up. All original. Not a crack in the windshield, all lights and map lights work (altimeter, etc). AC appears to be functional but needs at least a charge.

According to the prior owner she has "a 100 miles on a complete rebuild(22re) and 217K on truck , new clutch, new fuel tank, new fuel pump, new brakes and tires."

I ordered a soft top last night. And am unsure what I want to do after that. The only part of the truck that really bothers me is the shift boots, they look all of their 30 years, the rest seems great. I drove her 65 miles home last night at 55-60 plus some stops in city traffic and had no issues.

Some shocks may be in order and ????

I've owned quite a few Toyotas, but this is my first of this era
75 FJ40
81 FJ40
1990 22re truck
1992 V6 truck
1994 V6 4runner
1998 4 cyl 4runner
2006 tundra
2004 sequoia

You will be happy with shocks. Maybe a mild lift. Wheels look good. Are Toyota but are not 1987 of you care.

I had one. When you out the top back on, follow the bolt procedure in the manual and it will never rattle.

How do the seats look under those mossy oak specials?

The wheels are off an 01 tundra I believe. The seats look really great under the cover. the back is in good condition as well.

Driving this thing makes you wonder why FJ's have gone through the roof and these have gone down. EFI, nice breaks, decent power, PS, etc. I think the age of the buyers willing to part with their $$$ is part of the equation.

Beno for all of your OEM parts needs...

Love it. Good looking truck. Wheels are from a 1st gen tacoma or 3rd gen 4runner.

Fix saggy rear, shocks and decent tires and rock it. Great find

Weekend update,

This lil truck is so much fun. Could hardly wait until Friday to get this thing off

How is that top so heavy? It had pretty clearly never been removed. After getting it off once, I decided it was never going back on. Posted it to free craigslist and gone from yard in 5 min. What did we do before the days of smart phones, it would have sat in the yard for 5 years.

Truck is definitely a conversation starter. On Saturday I look out to see a guy in my driveway taking pics. Turns out he has a mint one owner 84, and is ordering a soft top. His top had never been off.
Last night got flagged down by an armored and snorkeled up 80 series.

thoughts on pro comp shocks, entire set on sale pretty cheap right now?

also considered tube doors, but they seem unnecessary. Really just need to drive this thing ( I did today)

Ebay shift boot inbound.

as to the hard top, my losses on resale will be limited as the initial investment in this baby is minor. As to year round use, New Orleans in the last few years seems to have winters very similar to summers in Cuba. 90% humidity and highs in the 80s

and as to that last comment, assuming you can ever believe a seller, he really thought he'd recapture his youth, built this thing (timing chain had gotten outta whack) and never drove it.
