I have advertised the following in the Diesel & JDM Parts section. Posting here because the deal does include a complete but project truck as well as the parts:

Original thread can be found here:

...

302,260 original km. One registered owner from new (I have the signed registration document as bill of sale). Strong diesel 3B engine.

I have labeled it as a "project truck" because it will require a dedicated enthusiast to restore it or some might consider it a parts truck. I bought the truck as a project and intended to restore to original. This is before my '79 BJ40 became a project when the body on it finally gave up the ghost and is now my "Alaska" truck project. This '82 BJ42 is for sale to help pay for the engine going into my "Alaska" project truck.

What you need to know. The PO of the '82 BJ42 for sale t-boned a car that ran a yield and the frame is bent approx. 3" to the passenger side from about the front axle forwards. The frame also requires attention in the rear corners where the bracing to the rear sill is badly rusted. I inquired about replacement frames and the going rate at the beginning of 2008 was about $800 and I have contacts in Ontario and Montana. The body is rough and will require much work or replacement parts. The good news is that the engine appears to be strong & sound with no smoke once warmed up. I have only driven the truck around my friend's farm, where the truck is presently stored and I make assumption that the compression numbers would be fine if I were to test them, which I can do for interested parties. The oil pressure appears to be fine also based on the separate oil pressure gauge. The transmission and transfer case are fully functional and without gremlins. The rest of the parts seem to be all there. I have a '82 steering wheel to replace the earlier model if the purchaser so desires as the original owner kept the steering wheel for posterity's sake.

I have accumulated a number of parts for the truck for my intended restoration. They are in very good to excellent condition, solid with perhaps only light surface rust in localised areas. I have listed a price that you would expect to have to pay if you ordered them from breakers in the U.S. (e.g. SOR, Cruiser Parts, FJ Parts).

Hood with hinges: USD 150 to 400
Bib & Bezel: USD 150 to 350
Fender: USD 135 to 300
Ambulance door complete: USD 170 to 400
Spare tire carrier: USD 140 to 225
Roll bar with pads: USD 200 to 250
Hard top side panel complete: USD 245 to 500
Rear jump seats (Very close to Mint condition! Came out of a new truck when it was new and stored. Thanks Wayne / Crushers) USD 300 to 350 a pair (for core, refurbishable state only)

I'll throw in a set of used '40 springs and I have a fully functional school bus heater if you want kick ass rear heat.

I have started to take pictures. Please follow the enclosed link to my Picasa web album page. I'd be happy to answer any questions from interested parties and I will be taking pictures of the remaining parts as soon as I'm able to.

Location: Near Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Price: CAD 3500 (approx. USD 2800 at present exchange) for truck and listed parts complete. I would like to try and sell as a complete package. I may consider selling truck and parts separately dependent on response to package sale. This price is exactly what I paid 18 months ago with a few additional parts I'll throw in. I would like to recoup my money to help pay for my "Alaska" truck project so price is firm.

Shipping: I will work with the buyer to arrange pick-up or shipping as necessary at the buyer's cost.

Availability: Now till it's gone.

Contact: Via this thread or email. I will endeavor to review both once a day.

Thanks for looking.

Price & package negotiable

Price now negotiable. I will consider splitting the good spare parts from the truck.

At this point I don't wish to break / part the truck but might need to if there is little further interest in buying the truck whole.

If you are interested in doing a 3B swap into a 40, this would be the way to go as you'll have all the bits, including a wiring harness, EDIC etc.

Thanks for looking.

Jim

Wish you were a little closer to the border!!! I will check on shipping, but my guess it will be pretty high.

Ah, yes. I fear my distance from the border is less the issue ;) (about 3 hours).

I'd be willing to drop the vehicle off at the border if that helps. I figure it would be in the $900 to $1100 to get it car hauled. That's just an educated guess.

If you are interested further, please drop me a line.

Cheers,

Jim

Compression numbers

I finally got around to borrowing a different diesel compression tester (same as mine but known to be working and providing consistent numbers). The numbers are:

Cyl 1: Cold 420 psi Warm 400 psi
Cyl 2: Cold 380 psi Warm 380 psi
Cyl 3: Cold 400 psi Warm 380 psi
Cyl 4: Cold 380 psi Warm 380 psi

My compression tester showed numbers 20 to 30 psi less than the numbers above. Furthermore, the repeatability of the above numbers is +/- 10 psig or so as I checked a couple of the readings twice. The truck warm test was after running for a five minutes and driving 15 minutes or so around the farm.

A deal on the truck and roll bar / cage is still pending. The other parts are still available.

Regards
Jim

P.S. The truck is not roadworthy in its present state. It does travel true but the fan shroud has been moved due to the collision and the clutch fan binds on the inside of the shroud. It probably could be fixed but driving a long distance in its present state would be unwise.

Truck SOLD pending payment & paperwork

Thanks to all of you who showed interest. The truck is now SOLD pending payment & paperwork.

The parts other than the roll bar are still available.

Cheers,
Jim
