eBay 1982 40 - would like expert opinions

Seriously tempted by this one although a bit out of my price range. Will need to get :princess: on board.

A couple of areas of concern even for a newb like me is: a few leaks in the drivetrain (but none look like deal killers), using great stuff foam to plug holes in firewall, dash seems to have a few holes and customized switches.

Rust doesn't look bad - not sure it has more than surface rust, but this is where I need more help from those more knowledge for sure. This is the first 1980+ model that I've looked at.

Hi, instrument cluster should be different, no 55mph on it. I also saw the cra....y foam ,makes you wonder what else has been jerry rigged. I wouldn't buy it without seeing it first. He's owned it for years but doesn't know about the tub.... Mike
 
I was bidding on it, and all the sudden it was pulled off, said due to "item broken or lost". There was no reserve, and I guess seller got spooked that it wasn't not going to bring what he wanted.

Rich - go for it. I don't think I'll ever convince my wife to pay $18K for a rig, so far away. At least not in the next two days. :)
 
I appreciate that, but too far for me to go inspect. Plus 18 is more than I want to pay anyway. I've been looking so long I think I'm turning into a genuine tire kicker
 
I was lurking around this as well. I find it distasteful a no reserve auction goes away and returns as a buy-it-now. Kind of Bull in my book.
 
I too have inquired about the tub. I have not received a response. I also asked owner why it was pulled form eBay and re-listed. When he first listed I recommended that he have a buy it now price. Maddening !

And the amp meter would read 50s.... Not 30 right?
