1982 2F running terribly. Carburettor problem?

Does this engine have an EGR valve connected to the intake? I ask because I don't think that it is easy to get more fuel thru the carb to the point where the exhaust is black, if the timing and spark are okay? The way to not get a good burn is to have an open EGR valve feeding exhaust into the engine, especially at idle when vacuum can really draw exhaust gasses in.

Good point but confirming that there is no EGR valve on the engine.
These fumes also smell of fuel, not oil. I will investigate again on the weekend.

It sounds like it was running fine before storage. If so, then most likely the issue is bad fuel from sitting or possibly bad points from corrosion. I have multiple cars that sit for long periods of time. I only use non ethanol fuel with stabil. I rarely have a problem, unless the car sits for over 18 months or so. If you had ethanol fuel in the rig, then that makes a fuel issue very likely. Dump fuel, blow out lines, change filters and clean the carb.

Thanks.
It has new fuel already but the problem persists. I normally also use F10 stabilizer and it works really well.
I will work on the carb in more detail on the weekend, weather permitting.

No stabilizer will stabilize ethanol based fuels from phase separation.

My '82 California emissions 2f is electronic ignition. When I had points in my older rigs I always made sure the dwell set to spec.
