Not many around in this great condition. Have much more than asking price in it. Here's a partial list of what's been done and keep in mind that there is less than 100 miles since renovation/restoration. Complete Old Man Emu 2.5" suspension which includes, springs, shocks, bushings, greasable shackles, greasable pins, steering dampner. All new OEM tie rods, tie rod ends, hub caps, knuckle bearings, wheel bearings, and knuckle seals, exterior badges, bumperettes, front bumper and bumper gussets, hood bumpers, running boards, air cleaner hoses, side cover gasket, timing cover gasket, pan gasket, belts and more. Many bolts have been replaced with new stainless steel. Toyota power steering box and rebuilt saginaw pump has been added (what a difference in driving pleasure). New water pump, thermostat, hoses, Marlin Crawler heavy duty inner axle seals, Remflex intake/exhaust manifold gasket, air filter, gas filter and more. All new OEM weather stripping for all doors, windows and vents (not installed). Tires are 33x10.50x15 BFG KM2's also less than 100 miles on them. Professionally rebuilt carb by Mark's Off-Road with performance enhancements. Professionally aligned. Frame has been POR15'd and engine parts repainted. Drives really nice and has not been off-road since renovation. Interior is all original including original rubber floor and bed mats, except for seat bottoms have been reupholstered in matching color fabric. I have original window sticker for this vehicle in California all it's life. Very little to do to make it perfect. California smog legal. More pictures available on request.

I know there are differences in transmission, body rust, etc. between the years, but practically speaking and in regards to this specific rig, how does this '78 FJ40 drive as a semi-daily driver. I would likely only do light to moderate off-road on the occasional weekend; however, I would like to use it as my commute car 4-5 days a week (about 20-40 min each way). Does the split transfer case really make a noticeable difference for a noob(:flipoff2:) like me? And, ship or drive? How would it handle the 600 mile drive down to OC? (FUN!!)

Much thanks..

These definitely were not made to be commuters, that being said, this one drives very nicely and the addition of PS made a big difference in the ease of low speed maneuverability. 1978 FJ-40's are one if not the most sought after years. I have no doubt that it would handle the 600 mile trip to OC. I'll send you some pics in a bit.

Mike
