I purchased a 40 that came with most of the engine in a box. Just got it back from the machine shop and its time to re assemble. *(It has air conditioning likely installed after original purchase) What i seem to be missing is the spacer that goes between the water pump and the double pulley. As it is now, the pulley is off by 1/2" from lining up with the crank pulley. Something's fishy it seems. I'm not used to the air conditioning option or how they space the pulley into line. It is a toyota air conditioning system, but can't believe the dealership would hack up the firewall during installation like this one is. Not sure ill even get the air working but wanted the pulleys to align. Anyone have a 78 with air?

Just wondering if the spacer is available

Maybe someone put on a shorter water pump.

What spacer?

Photos above of spacer is for F engines, NOT 2F. If OP put a F engine in his '78, then we can talk through that mess.

For this 2F application there are two options:

A. Short snout water pump for fan clutch applications (started in ~78).
B. Long snout water pump for FIXED radiator fan (75- ~78).

OEM A/C (starting in 79/80 on 2F's in a 40) use a THREE row crank pulley, the water-pump is not indicative of A/C.

Please post which waterpump, waterpump pulley and crank pulley you have.

Or for anyone who can't run a fan clutch.
This specific case assumes someone uses the incorrect short waterpump and needs to space the fan off the waterpump. For 2F it is just fixed plastic fan with long waterpump or short waterpump with fan clutch. The spacer was only used for 09/72 - 01/75.

F engine conversion from metal to plastic is where the fan spacer comes in historically.
