1977 Toyota FJ 40 60k miles

It was purchased new by my father in law. It runs and passes emissions. Has a/c and all the parts are there but the a/c does not work. I have the hard top and doors with it. No rust. It's never left Phoenix. My father in law gave it to my son, he's since gotten sick and can't work. I'm selling it and giving him the money back. It has less than a hundred miles on the tires. I just rebuilt the carb from sitting, put a new fuel pump on it, new fuel lines and a new gas tank. It's 4x4 of course and will crawl over anything in low gear. It also has a three inch lift. Tires are 33". The winch needs the motor rebuilt.

Miles are 60767. It starts and runs perfect.

Interior has the original seats, they were recovered a few years ago to match oem. They are the stock front seats and belts however with new covers. Roll bar is stock, the heater is on the floor in the back. The dash pad was also recovered. The mats I believe are still the mats that came with the truck when it was new.

All the bushing in the supension are new (new three years ago with no miles). No mods to the supsension, or axles or lockers etc.. It is all stock with exception of the Rancho shocks and urethane bushings, and lift kit.

14k obo. I was offered 18k three years ago. It's hard to put a value on this vehicle but after some research I believe this is a fair price for it.

Pm me if your interested and I will get more details and pictures.

First pic is with the top and doors on, the "old" tires and rims. (Those bfgs were 20 years old with less than 500 miles on them) I tried to get Discount to warranty them, lol, from the side walls cracking.

If you know of any off road forums where I could list this vehicle please let me know.

I will be out of town this weekend. If you're serious and want more pictures, I will uncover it and take some next week.

nice looking rig.

I'm confused though, about 2 things:
1) no mods to the suspension but it has a 3" lift? Is that a body lift then?
2) all original, including the rear diamond plate quarters?

Also confused about the all original interior but the seats were recovered by you?

Not trying to pick on you here--this is a pretty nice 40--but you need to get your details hammered out.

Good luck with the sale.

Ok, all original except what you pointed out. It's not a body lift. The lift has been on it for 30 years, not sure how it was done or what it consists of. It doesn't have lockers or any non factory equipment including the transmission, differential, and axels.

The diamond plate is also non orginal also (obviously). It's also not hiding rust or damage and they can be removed if someone would like to inspect under them.

The truck still has however all the original running gear and interior. Along with the all the original sheet metal.

Thanks for the bump and the compliment. ;):)

I altered the add for you guys.

I recoverd them but copied them to look like oem. It doesn't have aftermarket seats or belts or what ever.

I'm not a Toyota enthusiast, so you guys may be looking at things that I wouldn't consider.

I would consider it in original condition because it doesn't really have any mods to it other than a few small details. I also wouldn't know what equipment came on it or not, but I do know that my father in law never altered it as far as the drive train or sheet metal. He did some small things when he was driving it in the 70's and then it never moved until about 4 years ago when I got it running again.

It was also a tan color and he had it painted orange, not sure why but I guess he didn't like tan. lol.

I'll post some more pictures next week and you guys can let me know whats been done to it. It is what it is, it's not restored, and it was not kept in a condition where anyone had worried what the value of it might be someday. It's a survivor by accident so to speak and lack of interest.

Was it completely repainted red/orange or will I find traces of the tan color under the hood, dash or any where else? In order to get what you are asking you need a lot of pictures. Post them on a free web album and attach the link. Also, do you have the original documentation from your father in law from when he purchased it new? Any receipts through the years to verify the mileage. If not then it's not worth much because the speedo only has 5 digits and its hard to get anything for he said it was only 60k original miles with no documentation. I agree the diamond plate has to go. If the A/C was working it would be worth $1000 extra. If it doesn't work it may cost me $1000 to get it working.

Not trying to be negative, just realistic.

I understand completely, I didn't take anyone negative. Like I said, you guys are more into these trucks than I am and I don't know what's supposed to be there and what isn't. If I'm priced too high, than I'll negotiate some. On principle however, the miles are accurate, whether or not I can document them or not is probably going to be impossible at this point. The truck really did sit unmoved for at least 20 plus years.

I'll see if he has any of the original paperwork with it. I'd bet he does because he saves everything.

Under the hood, door jams, and inside were all done. I just looked however and the firewall and inner fender wells are not done.

I can get the diamond plate off, it will have holes where it was bolted on. Not sure which will look worse.

I just got home from vacation, I'll head out side and uncover it and get some pics really quick before it gets dark out.

Your biggest selling point is the low mileage, second is the relatively unaltered condition. You need credibile proof of both. A compression test (or better yet a leak-down test) verifying condition of the engine would be better than nothing. Lose the diamond plate and get the AC and all systems fully operational, all parts properly installed. Post lots of pics showing details that support your claims of the rig's condition. Three years ago the economy wasn't in the dumper as it is now, maybe your rig shows a lot better in person, and Mudders are a tough sell because they know these rigs so well. But even allowing for all these factors, your price needs significant adjustment, even if you buff up your main selling points. Just some honest feedback ... best of luck with the sale.

One can see the tan underside of the driver's front fender. Also it looks to have been sprayed with the hardtop on? In the photo with the bikini top one can also see tan at the top of the windshield.

As for the diamond plate, most think/believe it is put on to hide rust or damage.

All in all a nice truck, just a little spendy at this time.

Good luck.

what's with all the comments? Either you are interested in his truck or not, see the rules for this forum guys, if you have questions take it offline and ask the guy. This is no place to hammer on him about his truck. Most of you guys probably are not even interested in the damn truck. I hate seeing this stuff on here all the time.

did he state in the ad that he was looking for anybody's feedback? sheesh.......

what's with the criticism from the seniors? If YOU aren't interested in the rig, why post up?

Forum rules don't prohibit asking q's. IH8MUD Forums - Announcements in Forum : Classified Ads

I live in the next state over, and have been keeping my eyes out for a 40 for some time - this ain't just tire kicking & ball-busting.

BOT: nice rig, but unfortunately outta my price range... bump for ya.

questions on the actual truck are fine, criticism about what price the person is asking is not helping anyone, especially the guy trying to sell the truck.

and for your info, it has nothing to do with being a senior member here buddy, it has to do with MUTUAL RESPECT for each other. Maybe you will learn that as you become more "senior".
