It is the other way around: If you don't have the computer, you don't need to adjust the TP. You might find that the backfiring in the exhaust manifold is unpleasant though.

While I have you here @Pin_Head ....and we are all friends......my desmogged FJ-40 with Trollhole carb, header and Flowmaster 40 backfires on all compression braking.....it sounds kind of mean.....I don't mind it but is something out of tune or is my setup just going to backfire.....

Nolen,
As long as you don't have the air injection and you don't have an air leak at the header, it shouldn't bang on compression braking. You need air for it to ignite.

So if I adjust the TP speed on the carburetor, do I even need the emissions computer?

Carson, see my post on the other thread. The emissions computer also controls the fuel cut (idle) solenoid on the carb, which you will want to retain. But you don't need the computer to do that; when mine went bad, I was able to just permanently ground the (ground) wire that came from the solenoid to the computer. Mine is a 1980 ('79 build) though, so check your wiring schematic to make sure that would work on yours.

After I did that, I completely removed the emissions computer, and mine runs fine without any backfiring, but I de-smogged mine so there is no air injection any more.
