Great shape. Red. A little rust in the outer rockers and behind the front indicators. Couple of pin holes beside driver's seat, but otherwise rust free. Rear sill and deck are rust free as are the corners. This 40 was originally an AZ vehicle.

Mods:
4 wheel disc brakes
Full Float Rear Axle
Warn hubs on front and rear (flat tow it if you want)
H55F with split case and unobtainium drum parking brake set up (works great)
4" TPI Smoky MTN lift
Custom drive shafts
Blueprinted 2F with 25K on it since being rebuilt.
Weber 38
15x33x12.5 BFG MTs (8) and two sets of 4 steel aftermarket wheels and 5 Aluminum wheels (no original steelies)
ARB compressor and Rear Locker
4+ Bumper for 8274
WARN 8274 w/steel cable
CB
Rear Fender Flares
Skid plate for tranny/T-case
Warn Black Diamond shocks
Amsoil fluids

Have the original carb and aircleaner and some of the smog stuff, but motor was desmogged when rebuilt. Front axle service done, center arm kit done, TREs replaced. Needs virtually nothing. I've driven it 10K over the past year as my DD including two cross country trips of over 1,200 mles. Fly in and drive it home to Alaska if you want. It will do it . Currently in CO. Starts every time. Drives great. No leaks and I get 12-15 mpg. PM or email me. I'll post up pics later.

I have some smog stuff like the air rail and other stuff, but don't have it all.

Bumpsters.

Bet you would sell it right off if you'd drive it back to Tennessee! Great looking rig...

I've posted pics of all the rust. The worst is the driver's side outer rocker.

Is this still for sale?

Yes. If you think about it the tranny/t-case/parking brake assembly would cost 3K, motor rebuild 3K, all the other bits like lift/bumper/winch another 3K. That's less than a 1k for a virtually rust free 40.

I agree it seems like a screaming deal. I'm surprised it's still around. I'm following along because I have a very similar rig that I was considering selling but I'm curious how much it's worth. This will make a good comp of it sells.

Rust could be scaring folks away at that price point. I think this is a very cool rig and would have been gone a long time ago if it were rust free. I'm also watching it closely to see if the price falls...

Scary rust? Scary rust is rear quarter/rear inner fender/sill/frame rust, windshield and door bottom rust. I could throw a rock and hit half a dozen 40s rolling down the street with that kind of rust. If the rockers were replaced and the fenders patched it would be 99% rust free. What's scary about that? :meh:

This was my 40

This was my 40, it's a great build & if Cruiser Solutions was not currently finishing up my 76 aluminum body soft top project on a hot dipped galvanized frame & I wasn't going to look at an 87 Syncro Vannagon tomorrow... I would buy it back. As for the rust... nothing a little time, space, a mig welder & a grinder can't fix. Best of luck with the sale:beer: Photo circa fall 2010 near my home, Colorado Rockies...

Sale pending.

Nice looking rig. GLWS!

Sold!

How much did it go for? I'm looking for a comp.

Bringing this back up in hopes that someone knows who might have my 1977 FJ40. All I know is the guy who bought it was some kind of furniture dealer in NC if I can recall. I never met him as he had a friend of his in COS come look at it and complete the deal.

Bingo. That's the guy. Looks like he started the bodywork/paint a couple years ago.
