Couple of questions on wiring on a 1975 FJ-40

1. On the pass side below the coil, I have a White Wire with a Black stripe coming out of the harness that is frayed and not connected to anything. Is this a ground wire, or is it suppose to go to the coil.

2. The coil does not get power with the key. I temp ran a + pos hot wire to the coil with a toggle switch. Should this go directly to the + on the coil, or to the + on the resistor, or should it come in with the 4 wires to the resistor from the harness?

3. The wire that comes out of the Fuse box that says ENGINE, where does that wire go too first, coil/ig switch ect?

4. On the alt there is a plug that comes out that has 3 wires. Where does the middle wire go? Also are the white wires with the blue stripe always hot positive? White wires with black stripe ground?

It appears the Past owner wanted to do some rewireing of his own.

There is a wiring diagram on thne tech links page, also one in the Haynes Manual and the Factory Manual. I would look it up for you, but I am at work now. Wanted to point you in a direction that might help.

When I say afctory manual, I do not mean the owners manual. There are a set of "factory" manuals which are on ebay all the time. One is the 2F engine and the other is the Chassis. The electrical diagrams and other info is contained in the Chassis Manual. Haynes also makes a manual which is useful, but not as easy to follow. I have both, because ite helps to see something written up two different ways.

there are 3-4 wire diagrams in the tech section....pdf and gif and others. One outta cover close enough to trace wire colors...

From the ones I've worked with, wire colors didn't change much...

I should of been clear on my factory manual, I meant the HAYES manual. I Looked at the wiring for 1975, but I did not see the White wire, with the black stripe on the coil side. To me the Hayes is hard to trace. I am going to print the ones here on the board and hopefully the rest I should be able to figure out tonite. Thanks

Yeap, got the pics, thanks

Well I got just about everything working last nite, except for:

tail lights (which I suspect the 3 foot long RV plug that is tied into the rear harnes and rapped around the ball hitch)

Wiper fluid motor (Possibly a bad switch, since the wipers would not work, threw in a old spare switch I had, got the wipers working, but no pumper for the fluid)

PO/PO also decided to remove the alternator regulator, for what reason I do not know. I am suspecting this is what initially caused a majority of the issues. He had that pretty cobbled up as well. Some rewiring to do there also. Thanks
