Truck Overview

This is an original paint, surface-rust-only FJ40 that has been maintained and improved without losing its character. It’s not a restored show truck — it’s a real truck you can drive, enjoy, and build on.

  • Lifelong CA truck
  • Solid, unpatched frame
  • Floors and rear sill solid
  • Dash uncut
  • Honest patina

Drivetrain & Mechanical

  • Original 1.5F — numbers matching
  • Toyota H42 4-speed (Toyota-correct upgrade over stock 3-speed)
  • Factory transfer case
  • Front disk brakes
  • Holley Sniper EFI conversion
Mechanical upgrades performed by Valley Hybrids. Sniper EFI set up with support from Nolan Grogan (IH8MUD) — makes starts and idling far more reliable while keeping things serviceable.

Drives well on the road — no overheating, no odd noises. No V8 swap, no hacked harness.

Suspension / Wheels / Tires

  • Old Man Emu 2.5” lift
  • 33” BFG KO2 tires (less than 5K miles)
  • OEM Toyota 15” wheels
True stance, well balanced, and ready for trails or highway.

Bumpers / Recovery

  • Warn 8274 winch
  • OP Machine steel front bumper (clean, functional, not overly aggressive)
Appropriate recovery gear that doesn’t overwhelm the truck’s classic look.

What This Truck Is

  • A well-sorted driver with original core
  • A Toyota-based drivetrain (no Franken swaps)
  • A truck you can get in and use immediately
  • A truck someone can take further without undoing others’ work

What It Isn’t

  • A frame-off restored trailer queen
  • A hacked-together rat’s nest
  • A PVC-timeline V8 monster

Why It’s For Sale

I’m reallocating garage space and focus to another project. No urgency — I was hoping to build something really special. It's on the way but obviously not all the way. I'll hold onto it until I hit the price and am sure it's going to the right next owner.

Price

$25,000 — fair for original CA truck, H42, EFI, OME lift, recent tires, and quality work by Valley Hybrids.

Serious inquiries only — detailed photos (frame rails, undercarriage, VIN plate, engine bay, interior) available.

PM me here on Mud if you’re interested or want specific shots/videos.

Awesome. How did you anchor the car seats to Back of seats? Those are best top rear seats?
I anchored the car seats to the body behind the bench seat. It’s not something I’d advertise as safe.

Besttop fold & tumble.

Smattering of hard top pictures.
