After almost 20 years of turning wrenches on cheap plastic and crammed engine compartments, I get to return to building another FJ40. It's quite theraputic--all that space, simplicity, and tank-like design. A friend purchased a just-begun partial resto project and basically hired me to fully restore it.
When I did my last 40 build we barely had email capabilities. Now you may follow the progress via Instagram while yer sittin on the toilet: (@motoclimbermatt) • Instagram photos and videos.
This will be a frame off stock restoration with lots of new nuts and bolts. Tranny and t-case already rebuilt, engine is SOR rebuilt F155, and piles of new parts to go with. Front brakes will be upgraded to disc, and the hard top and rear doors are later 1977+ models. My last FJ40 was a red 'chevota' build for mudding and dubbed the Red Rat. Since we are going with original paint of Dune Beige, I figured I'd call this one the Camel.
