I just bought this fj40 back in July. I love it. I told myself I wouldn't sell it but reality set in and I really don't bring in the income to make this how I'd like it to be. Also, I'm relocating out of state and I'm realizing I'll need the money.
I bought it and enjoyed it for only a few short weeks before I took to the a well respected landcruiser mechanic to get it in good working order so I'd be able to enjoy it. I've paid him $2,000 to go through the motor and replace the motor mounts, relocate everything, put a newer heavy duty battery tray on, fix the carb, etc. I'm basically just trying to get out what I've put into it and I still won't get back everything. It has a transmission leak that still will need to be fixed.
If you're interested, call me or text me and I'll give you some more information. It's in decent running condition but will still need quite a bit of work. I have an extra axle from a later fj that needs rebuilding but could be set up for discs, also some extra misc. parts that I'll throw in, including extra 3 spd transfer case, 3 spd tranny (I think), bellhousing, etc. After the mechanical stuff, it's basically just interior and some body work. You can fix a few things on this and easily make it a great hunting or trail rig, or if you wanted a small project and had some extra time this would be great.
PROS: Has 327, SM465-4 spd manual trans, 2nd auxillary fuel tank, upgraded cam, 35" swampers with good tread, soft top and doors, bikini top and half doors, roof rack, bucket seats
CONS: tranny leak, headlights aren't working, wipers don't work, some gauges don't work, will need some body work and paint, front under seat passenger fuel tank needs some work. I believe the drain plug needs replaced. Could be something very simple.
