1971 blinker stalk availability

I have this style blinker setup. The blinker stalk is broken off and I am curious as to ways to fix it. I can’t find any of the upper assembly with stalk on eBay or other classified areas. Any thoughts on repairing what I have? Or do folks replace this old style with newer ones that don’t have the switch at the bottom of the steering column? I’d consider the whole steering column with steering wheel if possible since I have an aftermarket wheel and would rather have original if anyone had access to one in a parts Fj.

Swapping columns can be done, but it's not so simple. Your column and box are 1 piece and the 73 and later box and column are separate with a rag joint connecting them. Then there's turn signal wiring. 74 and later has separate turn and brake lights, which isn't compatible with yours. I think the 73 40 has a combination light like your 40. FJ55 would have combination brake, turn lights also. You may be able to adapt those style turn switches to a later column.

So I ran a die over the broken stub of the shaft. I drilled and tapped the head of a 7mm Rem Mag case and screwed it on - worked or years. Later I clamped a short Husky vice grip with some tools in the handle on the round shaft below the stub - worked for many years now - longer handle is more convent; having a knife blade and screwdriver handy is good too.

That’s it. Looks like that stalk was a little more flexible than mine. That is really the only thing I need. I wonder if it can be straightened without making it weaker or break? What are you asking for it?

You are wanting just the stalk that your hand operates? Looking it over, I'm loath to dismantle it from the round housing it operates in, so I'd send what's in this pic.

Stalk is bent from years of use, ... no idea about straightening, ... a little interior physical "patina"!

Sorry for the gap in correspondence. Let franklin40 have it. I just depleted my 'mad money' for this month on a pair of jump seats and since it's more of a cosmetic item, I can wait. $40 is probably the best deal a guy could ask for though. So if no one else buys it from you, I'll take it in a month or so. Thanks so much!
