1959 FJ25 Soft Top Frame Off Restoration

Got some work in today. Its the first time since my surgery. My elbow is still as big as a golf ball. Its full of fluid and jiggles if I move it too fast. I am getting it drained on Tuesday. EEEWWWW. Now to the not-so-gross part of my post!

I'm prepping to get the engine here. I bead blasted all sorts of little parts today and got paint on the bellhousing, and misc. covers, the clutch fork, and rear engine mounts. I know, not a lot of progress. I also bead blasted some more rear leafs. I have 4 to go. Also in the cabinet was the steering column, bib hinge, and the grill trim. I also pulled out the hood, bib, trans cover, and tailgate and set them aside. Their destination is the stripper in Orange, CT on Tuesday. The plan is to bring my friends truck home with the engine tomorrow, and then fill the bed with any body parts other than the tub that need to get stripped for the return ride on Tuesday. Once they're at work, I'll bring them to the stripper at lunch time.

Anyone want a pint of fluid from my elbow?

Ack... its good to hear you are doing better... but man... a pint of elbow fluid.... I like ordering pints of guiness at Canyons restraunt... now I have an image of elbow fluid in my skull. Time for a labodamy.

ya, I told him no holes, but oh well. I have a welder. I did some final prep on the frame today and have a coat of high build primer on it.

Are all those holes legit (if you were to keep them)? I mean, do they in fact have a known purpose on a 25?

I dont think so. I think he drilled them for an FJ40.

Progress today. I finished priming the frame early this AM and let it flash. Then I proceeded to wet sand the entire frame with 320 and then 600. If you've never done it, what a PITA.

Time for a quick late lunch and then it was time to mix the color! I started by doing my best to shoot into the frame and cut in all the little knooks and crannies. Another PITA. I dont know how anyone can get paint in there. 2 coats later, a few runs, and the frame is green. My POS camera doesnt take pics very well. I'll need to roll it out in daylight to see how bad it really is If the runs are too bad, I'll be sanding them down and doing a final coat.

Now I know why I'm not painting the body

I also finished off the valve cover. It had quite a few dents and dings in it that I had to pound out and finish off. I am using the Eastwood's Extreme Chassis Satin and for some reason I would get huge amounts of overspray no matter how I shot it. It comes pre-mixed so they say but it is really thick. So, I added some reducer to thin it out and that helped tremendously.

I'll let it sit for a few days before I add the F120 sticker and bolt it up.

I muscled it out.

Major progress today.

1. Installed all 4 springs into the frame
2. Installed front axle
3. Installed rear axle and rear shocks
4. Installed flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate.
5. Mated tranny and transfer to engine
6. Installed all covers on the bell housing
7. Installed engine assembly into rolling frame.
8. This post is worthless cause there are no pics. I'll take some tomorrow AM when the light is better.

Made a little progress today.

1. Hung the exhaust
2. Bead blasted, clear coated and installed copper fuel/vacume line
3. Installed dizzy, wires, and set timing
4. Cleaned and installed flexible fuel line
5. Filled engine with oil
6. Filled tranny and t case with gear oil
7. I think I may try to start her tomorrow!
