Hi Guys,

I've been asking around to see if 16" split rims from a mid '70's FJ45 would fit on a 25?

I know that Archie has late '60's era solid 16" rims on his 25, which fit fine, but that's as much as I know.

I would like to know before I try buying such rims, which I would use as temps until I find 5 original 25 rims.

I tried contacting Marve at SOR a couple of times, but never got a response.

I almost purchased a set of splits, but decided to wait to see if someone else tried them.

Anybody have a 25, and mid-late '70's 45?

Can you please try and see if the 45's splits will fit on the 25 with-out any problems.

So, who can help us identify what other 16 inch wheels would fit an FJ25? Doesn't look like it ever got resolved in this thread that originated in October of last year.

I need ten 16 inch wheels for my 25's and would like to find an economical way to put together two sets of five that match. I have some old Nissan Patrols and tried those 16 inch wheels and the don't fit the center post even though the posts line up with the lug holes. The center of the Nissan wheel is not large enough. My FJ45 has some fancy after market 16 inch wheels but that is a 1964 and I am not even sure they would fit the FJ25.

I have one FJ25 with 15 inch after market tires and wheels that I need to change out and the other FJ25 has three original 25 wheels with the oval and another wheel I have not yet identified without the oval.

Neither car has a spare tire. So, I need two matching sets of five but I really don't even know what to look for since I don't know what will work. And I doubt I am alone in this quest to find some 16 inch wheels that fit a 25.

I was hoping that someone might have identified some, perhaps from older Jeep models? Or from Chevy or Ford?
 
Still looking for the same answer. Didn't the 45s in the late 70's have regular 16" non-split rims? They should fit...right?!?

These should look great, and we could always cut out an oval (or paint an oval) to make them look more "25" :popcorn:

are you just looking for 40 info? because 70's, 80's etc + came with 16" wheels. Also few 16's are found on 40's here but it was delivered more commonly in the rest of the world. I don't know specifics though.
 
Hmmm:hhmm:, not too familiar with the 70 rims...do the 16" 70 rims have clips for hubcaps? The whole idea is to find a working 16" rim to use on the 25, and/or 40, but to look as original/stock as possible.

On the 25 a 15" disc brake wheel will hit the TRE, the steering arms are different from the 40.

A drum brake 15" wheel will not fit over the FJ25 brake drum because of the rivets.

I'd guess that the 16" split rim will be very tight or hit the TRE, hopefully Sean can put that question to bed.

Also the early Nissan, Jeep, Chevy, etc. stock wheels all have a smaller center hole. Not to say it couldn't be opened up, I've seen plenty torched out. :hillbilly: Backspacing is usually more than the 25 rim though.
 
A smaller center hole is the problem with every other type of wheel I have tried so far.

Jim, buying an original wheel isn't really a viable option since I can't find one for sale.

I am going to keep trying different wheels, sooner or later it seems like something has to fit.
 
Hopefully Sean will have had the chance to try out the splits. If they work, then I would think that one piece 16" steel rims from newer 45's would also work.

Dean, apologies for taking so long. Sorry to say they're going to be a no-go.

Even though the I.D.'s are the same the backspacing is; 16" split rims=>3.35", 16" FJ25 stock rim >2.5".

The tie rod hits big time. Wasn't aware of the funky angle that the FJ25 steering arms have.

Sorry Dean, on to plan "A" again;).

Thanks for trying them out Sean...at least now we know that this is not an option.

So Rick...which rims did you say you tried? Besides the center hole not being big enough, would you say the Chevy's were the closest?

What about the spare tire rims from FJ70's or FJ80's...are they just plain steel 16" rims? If we found enough, we could always find a way to weld on some clips for the hubcaps...aren't those rims pretty thin also, which may sit nicer on the 25...just a thought :hhmm:

That's what it is, the backspacing is really small. I knew the arms were really funky. If it were me.. i'd probably grind off the rivits on an early 40 wheel and reweld it with enough bs that it would fit.
