Somewhere there was a post of fitting the Alu-Cab to a FrontRunner rack. The trouble is how the Alu-Cab attaches at the side rather than in the middle.
My solution was to swap out the 1255mm slats and front/rear combination pieces with 1475mm versions. It’s the perfect width for this application. Where the Alu-Cab mounts you need to use a long woodworking pipe clamp to compress in the side rails as it’s about 1/16” too narrow to get the screws in without the squeeze. You could alternatively mount the rails upside down but then you’d block under-rack mount for your $400 camp table.
The front combination rail needs to be mounted inverted as it would hit the Alu-Cab underside stiffeners. Also, the front two slats need some shimming to make for a level rack top. I used a double stack of Gr 8 fender washers. As discussed elsewhere, the 200 mounts don’t result in a flat rack top. This results in a side rail that is forced to bend and then an awning that doesn’t easily mount. With the washers it’s nearly perfect.
Am I glad I purchased the FR? I think I am. It’s been a hassle to sort out and I’m a bit frustrated by the mounts. But I really like versatility of the rack accessories and the light weight aluminum. And without the tent it was nearly silent on the 200.
And now I have a nearly complete 1255mm Slimline 2 that I can mount to the 100 with a few additional bits.
Anyone looking to put a FR on a 200 would be well advised to sort out the platform size first. FR can easily customize the rack package with available parts to your needs.
