First things first, I have no hands on expierence with the 12HT and need a little advice.

Electrics from japan are 24, vacume pump on alt and shut down is a flapper valve on the intake????

If so I need to make it 12 volt, options are new starter and alt, rewind to 12 volt, get a toyota alternator less vacume pump and run a electric vacume.

Instead of a flapper valve shutting down the engine hows about a fuel solenoid?

The tack will only work I assume with the factory tach on the 24 volt truck?

Just fishing for ideas..

Thanks

You could leave the 24 starter and use a series/parralell switch like the HDJ81's.
24v starters rock.

For the alternator, you could probably have it rewound to 12v. Or would the 2H alternator mount the same? The 2H was 12v. Then you could keep the vaccumm on the alternator.

Not sure about shut down. Fuel solenoid sounds like a good idea. But would the 24v flapper work with only 12v applied to it? I doubt it would take much power.

Cheers,
Nick

All Cdn 2H's were 24V. Around the world was a combination of 24V and 12V.

Rob, phone Sheldon. We can help with all that stuff if you want.

Mine are 12V and use Edic to shutdown. Greg the Cdn 2H 24V also use Edic . ?

I just bought a JDM 12H-T from Greg and Sheldon. They were and continue to be a huge help to me in my project, as well as just being really great people.

Not only have they provided me with a number of parts that would be difficult for me to find otherwise, but have also provided a wealth of info about Toyota diesels and swaps.

For my part, when faced with the same voltage challenges, Sheldon recommended ebay Australia as a posible source for used 12V 12H-T/2H parts. Sure enough, after a couple of months of looking I found my starter and alternator. The alt will need to be rebuilt, but even with that expence and shipping I will save $800.00 US compared to buying 24V parts and having them rewound.

2 cents from a rookie...

I am getting into this now as well with my swap... you say you saved $800, I had not realized how expensive rewinding is, how much were you quoted?

I was quoted $600 each for starter and alternator, rebuilt, rewound. This is provided turn-key, as opposed to rebuilding my parts. The quote was from a trusted outfit and I know they would last a long time. However the cost is just not managable for me.

The drawback of my choice is that I'm still waiting for the parts from Australia. I'm told by the seller that shipping by sea can take up to three months. Hopefully the ship won't swing by Asia on the way and get hijacked by pirates. :)

Alternatively I could have shipped by air for about $300 US. Seemed silly compared to the $100 I spent on the parts.
