It has some contours that are tough to fit and retain all usable space.

I would need some pics to be able to decide. Contours aren't an issue so long as I can measure them.

Also has some plastic tabs at the top opening that support the lid. These could be ground off to drop in a box.

Tabs that extend INTO the console area? Thats odd.

Another raised offset at rear for the power plug.

Do all 100s have this power plug?

I was thinking a lid with frame only to fasten to the inside top perimeter. Much easier to build and retain space. Fastened wth rivets or screws under the lid frame.

Also easy but how many 100 owners are willing to pull holes in their delicate plastic panels? :flipoff2:

I'll try to post some pics later today. The hard plastic inside the console should support the lid frame wth enough fasteners. An angle drill would make the install easier.

A determined thief with a BFH and pry bar would defeat it though.

This isn't for the determined thief. There is really no point trying to defeat someone who is determined to mess with your truck. I've given that up years ago. This is about keeping honest people honest. This is about thwarting the opportunist.

Total agreement on that. You can only hope to catch 'em in the act and leave a greasey spot where he was standing.

Some pics and rough measurements. 9-1/2" frt to back --7-1/2" depth from tabs to bottom--5-3/4" side to side at top opening. Bottom is different with contours.

I had contemplated this some time ago but in the area where the disc changer is now. Basically remove the disc changer, bolt the box to the floor and cut the plastic top of the area where the changer is to have an opening lid you can access with a key.

There is a difference in the console interior between those with disc changers and those without.

Can the 12v plug be moved or is molded into the plastic? If it can be moved then I can just slot out a hole to move that 12v plug up. Ooooooor, just extend the wiring to have a separate plug mount on top of the box if that is needed. Thoughts?

In for a 1999 100 Series and a 3rd Gen (1998) 4Runner...no one makes a console vault for either Toyota.

Not sure on differences in 100s...I've only had the 2 99s. I'd think Toyota would have made changes when they refreshed the interior. No idea if Lexus is the same, year-to-year either.

I *think* so. I am happy to take pictures and post...will do that this evening.

Plug socket with hinged lid looks to be pressed in from the top held with some tabs most likely.
It is a '99

I would love a lock box option for the top portion of the center console. Easier access
