100 ifs "touring turtle" project build

pics of up to date today, as far as ute conversion goes, will have some more photo's for rest of detail in each section as we go.

Fitted so far, brake upgrade, power upgrade inc intercooler, 3" exhaust and dtronic to suit, uhf, tv, dvd player, lockers, diff ratio change, long range tank, 18" rims, 35" tyres, sway bar extension links, upgraded t bars.

The conversion itself has the original stop light in the roof section, the original rear window demister still works, interior looks factory, roof console still fitted, and the vehicle is engineered as a tray.

The extra cab section is as long as it can be, to the top of the flat floor section under what was the rear seat, giving aprox 350mm from back of cab to back of seat base.

And man is the thing quick, for a diesel, with some kg removed, and the APS power upgrade fitted, Julies LS1 Adventra only really pulled away today on the extra rpm it had before each gear change, with power button in.

Nice!

should have painted it green just like the rig in your avatar :D

That tray back/ute conversion looks a lot better than I thought it would. Very nice so far. Can't wait to see the final product! Hope you're feeling better Darren!

Jesus, thankfully you're alive.

Interesting build. I think it's growing on me!

Why didn't you just get a Hi-Lux... :D

Hilux doesnt have coil rear, disc brake rear, or alot of the 100 features for cabin comfort, or performance.

that's an awesome build! I really like the way you incorporated the rear hatch glass/hatch. Do you have a pic of the corner, not hidden by the chrome tube? curious how you resolved it there.

no need to justify using a 100; that's like asking why Christo didn't just buy a Tacoma instead of building the Vlakvark or buy an 80 instead of SAS the 100... (uh Christo why didn't you just buy a 80? ;) )

that's prob the most luxurious trayback in existence!

Ugh.. turned a perfect 100 series into a pickup truck!

below is a pic as requested, of the area where the side joins the rear panel. The rear panel is pressed with the curve in it to join up, and square where the tray meets down.

And below is an interior shot of the way it finishes off, with carpet and trim

Forgive my ignorance, but what does "GU UTE" stand for?

GU as in Nissan Patrol GU. Ute as in Utility Vehicle or what we call a Pick-up truck in the States.

Yes, its the exact opposite of an FJ, where they turned a legend into a "metrosexuals minibus" :grinpimp:

Ha...I almost spilled my White Russian! That would be very un-dude. Love the project...

thanks for the pics, really nice bodywork and very clean. I like how well resolved and tidy the bodywork is! Those details seperate the amatuer from pro jobs

Love the new Patrols, wish we could get them here! I would defect to Nissan for one :)

We used a profesional for the work required in that stage oof the build, and with the camper going on the back, should be able to do afew per year, is our hope.

As for the nissans, not as good a build quality as the Toyota, and take some work to drive as nice with mods, but with all standard suspension arms, some new flares, and 14" and 10" stroke shocks, and all that travel with 37" tyres, makes modding them pretty easy.

And the drivetrain is pretty much bulletproof.

Cool project
Looking at doing a 100 ute, myself.
Just got a new angle grinder, too.
How long is that tray?

Cheers

Darren,
Looks good mate!!! where were you when you had the accident?? Victorian high country or elsewhere? What happened ?????

As a Geelong man, are you a fan or is it just where you work?? I'm a Collingwood man myself. If you are a fan you guys were lucky!!!

And for anyone unsure of what i'm on about....it's Australian Rules Football i'm talking about....the team from where Darren (ATS) works won the premiership cup for the first time in 44 years!

i hope everything is going ok. PM me if you need to talk about anything.
cheers
peter
