Was planning on getting a 33" x 10.5" tire for the 15" wheels on my stock suspension 1992. However, the selection in the 10.5" width is not good. Bumping it up to a 12.5" width gives me a much greater selection.

Question: What are the potential drawbacks or hazards of using an oversize tire of this size? will it rub? Will it kill my gas mileage?

That's somewhat a narrow wheel for a 12.5 wide tire. What do you think of the BFG KO2 in the 10.5?

I doubt a shop is going to mount 12.5" tires on a 7" wide wheel.

Hi all,

If you are actually going to four wheel this FJ80 then go for the 12.5 inch wide tires. The wider tires offer more floatation and traction potential than the 10.5 inch wide tire.

15 x 7 inch wheels aren't optimal for a 12.5 inch wide tire, but will work. The narrower wheel offers a better bead seat when airing-down for off-road performance (though the tire can "crown" when at street pressure, wearing-out the center tread prematurely.

Regards,

Alan

I run KO's on my 80, my Tundra, and my TJ. Love them

Just noticed that the PO put 12.5 on the stock FJ62 chrome wheels. Interesting, should I be concerned?

If the tag is correct, I have 6" wheels with 12.5 tires.... BALOONS!
