I painted the backside first with silver but we weren’t happy with the color so we picked up some amethyst gray (Nissan color) and couldn’t be happier with the finish. No body filler just straight over the metal work.

Drove it around about a 80 miles to get everything circulated and got it smogged. Now it’s torn down for a fresh timing belt, seals, water pump, steering rack, pulleys, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, vacuum lines etc. It will get a thorough cleaning of everything accessible before any reassembly occurs.

Incredible! Really impressive work here. Well done.

Small update, been very busy and finding time for the cruiser has been difficult. Earlier this week I replaced the steering rack and tie rod ends. That is a bit of a tedious job! Installed poly urethane mounts for the rack as well.

Today I put a few hours into the timing belt. First I replaced the cam seals and crank seal as preventative maintenance. I gave every part a good cleaning before reinstalling and redid the wiring loom that runs down the front of the engine (driver side. Aisin timing belt kit/waterpump

Got sidetracked again with work and life, we also had to come up with a final parts list to wrap it all up. I believe this weekend all mechanical repairs should be complete, at least for awhile. Did more thorough cleaning and polishing before reassembly.

Did a steering wheel leather wrap and it came out awesome. Highly recommend, believe it was from “wheelskins” for around 80 bucks.

I ran new tranny cooler hose with standard hose no prebent pieces, the setup I removed didn’t look very neat and the hoses needed replacement. I’m not sure exactly what the factory routing is but this is how I ran it. Looks clean and I put fabric split loom over the hoses to protect from chafing.

I love all this baselining work! Your engine looks super clean under the valve covers. This seems somewhat surprising given how badly they treated the interior in this one previously.
