ambulance doors

Hello, I am noob on this forum...my name is Dave I am restoring an '80 FJ40 all original rust bucket. I had an idea and just noticed something that may ruin my plans. I wanted to bead blast and powder coat my ambulance doors. But...I have noticed on a different set of ambulance doors that...

Can anyone tell me what's going on with these doors? I picked up this 40 up over the weekend and can't figure out whats going on. Needless to say the bottom of the doors don't latch. The top looks fine, has a 1/4 gap between door and roof. Any help would be appreciated.
