I was just down at Toyota looking at all the imports and noticed something that might be of interest to all you LJ78 Prado owners dealing with the DOT lighting issues.

I noticed that the tail lights on the 2-door LJ78's (or are these technically LJ71's?) are DOT stamped while those on the 4-Door LJ78's are not.

However (why is there always a however) due to slight shape differences of the rear corners of these vehicles (2-door sharp corner, 4-door more rounded) the tail lights are slightly different in design and shape...not very but they are different.

So I can't say for sure if they are swappable but if anyone has the means to check that would be good to know, possible making some Prado owners day in BC a whole lot better. :)

(As a side note, I had a peek at the 300ZX import they have as well and just for everyone's knowledge, all the lighting except the headlights are DOT stamped)

Since a lot of other vehicles on the road such as Mercedes Smart cars do not have DOT SAE marked lenses, reportedly, it sounds like this light marking charade won't last much longer.

it will unless someone has the guts to take them to task...
talking on the forum means squat...

Yup. That memo, focusing on RHD, and saying Japanese appears more and more...well...tainted all the time.
