I have finally found a Tachometer for our diesel engines. It is an autometer # 2888 It goes for about $150.00 CND. It works very well and will work off of any altenator 12 or 24volt.
Cheers

BTW, i got to test drive his truck and that "little" turbo works great. the whole setup feels just right...
congrates on opening up a whole new option for us all...
cheers

Awesome. I'm still working on mine. I did fine a metric carb fittting for the oil pressure line at the turbo. The little metric to -4 flare wouldn't work. Finding a 14mm banjo is taking some time so I think I might just drill and tap the pan. Anyone that's drilled and tapped the pan tell me what tyoe of fitting to use? I really would like to do the banjo so I could put everything back if I ever wanted to take it off for a rebuild or whatever I could still use the truck. I'm seriously loosing time to getting this done before moab and I doubt I'll have it on by then.

Good to hear that you liked it wayne and thanks again to Todd for my specific questions.

Oh.. I'm taking some pics along the way.. I was thinking when I got closer to completion I would post a thread with pic and the pieces I bought maybe along with Todd so other might benefit.

Kinda funny too, I found a whole truck not far from me. Here is the little beast.D-50

Ya Wesintl that sounds like a good idea, since it is two different vehicles I think it would be quite benificial to others who are maybe taking on this project.

I just took the pan off and welded a pipe on (dunno what u call it).
I didn't want to take the chance of drilling into anything, also I wasn't sure about getting bits of steel in there.
Pan came off easy as did gasket just a little bit of work. Gasket is not cheap, but u can use silicone too.
I'm sure others have drilled.

I found some other autometer tacs for diesels too:

#2308 - AutoGage Series, 2 5/8", alt. sensor, I think this is the least expensive. It looks like this but max rev is 6000.

#3788 - Silver series, 2 5/8", alt. sensor, 5000rpm max, white face, silver rim, probably more expensive.

Here is a pic of #2888

it would seem all of these 2 5/8" tacs would fit in a 60 series stock location, granted you figure out a way to mount it.

Heres a picture of how the sensor is mounted.

So it just attaches to the alternator and that is it? Simple install..

The gaughe has a calibration screw in the back of it so you need some sort of device to tell you what rpms the enigne is turning over at. The whole set up was a p[eice of cake to install. My only beef is that when at idle with the heater on full and the headlights on bright the tach jumps around lots, otherwise it works perfect Ive even had it offroad and it is solid and stable.

Hello
I was doing a little research on this tach #2888 by Autometer, brought up the installation instructions, and it calls for a 12 volt ignition power source. Do you have a converter for the 12 volt power, or did you hook this tach up to 24 volts.
Thanks

Yes I use the 2888 too and it is awesome. It also matched the "z-series" guages perfectly so it matches my EGT and boost gauges as well..

Hello
Are you using 12 v or 24 v ignition power source??????????????????

I used distributor parts from a 2F gasoline engine to make a tach pickup out of.
Here's what I did for a 6.2 diesel conversion on a previously gas FJ60
Diesel Tach Pickup
I guess something along these lines could be done for other diesels
