I have a 97 LX450 and lost the main key and remote key fob. I downloaded the alarm manual from sleeoffroad for the RS3000.
Questions: Does the 97 LX450 have the RS3000 alarm system (same as LC and many other Toyo models)? and... I went to Toyota to buy another remote fob (97 LC fob), but it looks different than my lost fob (which had the Black "L" and different stlye) Would the transmitter frequency be the same for the LC fob?
If it doesnt matter, I will buy the LC fob and program myself.
IN CASE my key was lost outside my home (who knows, my kids may have flushed it), etc., Would it be best to reset the whole alarm system to cancel out the lost fob security ID? If I reset, will I have to go through and program all the original alarm features or does it reset to default (factory) settings?
I appreciate in advance for anyone that knows the answers!

Compare the FCC code on the back of your remote with the one on the new remote...if the FCC code is the same then the remote should work.

Wow, timely!

I did this last night, thanks to a new FOB from c-dan (thanks Dan!)

Wifey dropped the keys in the drink getting on the boat. Luckily a diver was cleaning a boat a couple of slips down and got them for her. FOB was dead with salt water immersion though...

Anyway, I've done the a couple of times and it is freakin easy. The factory alarm holds up to 4 transmitter codes. There is a simple procedure to delete all the codes, which I do. Then I add each alarm, top and bottom buttons. Now either button on the FOB will unlock the doors. Great for those hands-full operations!

This does not reset or affect any of the other features of the remote. All of your 'preferences' will be the same. Takes all of about 10 minutes and that includes moving the seat all the way forward for better access.

If you don't have the manual for the alarm, let me know and I'll give you the procedure.

Chip,
Welcome to the forum!
The alarms are the same between the LC and LX. If the module you were sold is supposed to work with the OEM alarm for a 1997 LC, you should'nt have a problem, but it would be a good idea to check the FCC code on the back of the fob.

There have been other discussions regarding the setting of the remote, a quick search (I suggest using the advanced search) should turn up a few threads about this.

Cheers.

Thanks y'all!
Unfortunately, I lost/misplaced my only fob, so can't see what FCC code...and thanks Todd, I won't worry about screwing up all the feature settings. I printed out the alarm manual (RS3000) from sleeoffroad, so I should be set. Knowing me, I'll probably find the lost key & fob in my hand tomorrow morning. lol. My ADD costs me money quite regularly.

Warning Chip,

Doug's alarm fob has been lifted, bottom half painted black and has a cool roof rack on the top of the fob! :D

Peepers,

Box should be under the drivers seat, super easy to get to if you move the seat all the way forward.

I can't find the box ??, is it possible that mine does not have the keyless system ?, I just bought it used and I'm not sure if that was standard.

If it is, I need help finding the box :)

Thanks !

What year? LX or LC? Most (all?) alarms were port installed so it depends on where you truck hit sore. What does your remote look like? Any wording on it?

I am just going to get an after market alarm these starter kills are basically going to just leave you stranded by not disarming. So I am saving up for my after market alarm. I have been told Clifford makes the best alarms so that's what I will probably go with.

This is true for the LX450...

For a '97 FZJ80 it is:

FCC ID: BAB237131-022

Now I am assuming (yeah, I know what that means :flipoff2: ) that since the FCC IDs are different between the two that they are therefore not compatible. I do know that the one aftermarket key FOB I bought wouldn't work on my '97 LX450 (tried two different FOBs) so I went with a used OEM one and it worked just fine. Will be doing the same for my '97 FZJ80 here shortly.

The Black RS3000 remotes (BAB237131-022) are interchangeable with the Toyota (BAB237131-013) and the Lexus (BAB237131-032).

The gray RS3000 remote is NOT used on the 95-97 LC or LX and cannot be used instead of one of the 3 above remotes.

Cody,

Good info to know! I'll have to give it a try this weekend.

Good to also know that my track record for being wrong is still going strong

It is a 97 Land Cruiser. The OEM remote was lost, but the dealer gave me a remote from a LX450, which is compatible.

The dealer told me that I just needed to program it… but I can’t find the “precious” box !!!

There is a sticker on the DS windows stating “Vehicle equipped with a theft deterrent system”, and there is an LED installed on the dash.

In addition to that, when I removed the battery the alarm goes off, and I have to “play” with the ignition switch and the push button of the LED to make it go away.

It all indicates that I have the alarm system.. all I need is to find the box.
THANKS !

Did you look under the DS seat? That is where mine are....Maybe a PO "relocated" the unit

Just follow the directions in post #9. No need typically to move the seat forward to get to the programming button...Just get a pencil and poke the green programming button until the status LED on the dash comes on and follow the steps.

HTH

OK, I found the unit !. It was under the DS dash, stuck with double sided tape on a “cruise control module”.

Now, that is not all ! ! ! ! ! . I could not find the programming button. Then I realized that the FCC is ELVAR6A.

I did a quick search, and it looks like this unit is used on RAV4s ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Does the Toyota TIS site have info on the alarm systems ?
