Hey Guys, anyone know of a part number for any kind of glow plug other than toyota. Factory ones cost 77.50 CAD in Calgary. No book at either Canadian tire or NAPA show the 3b engine. So if anyone knows the P/N for NGK or others that would be good.

look under diesel shops in the yellow pages...

I think it's called GLM Deisel in calgary but I am not sure...they should hook you up...

:o

yup that's the place I was thinking about....

Listen to wayne, not this flat lander (wanna-be-calgarian)

I bought Nippondenso plugs from the local deisel shop in Vancouver before coming down to Guatemala. Cost was around $25 ea.

hmmm,

glow plugs for your 60 right? 12v ngk, i get mine from lordco (local bc parts store) for about 20 bucks each.

part # is in the shop, i'll post it for you tommorow, unless someone beats me to it!

For an '82 BJ60 with the superglow system still intact, 'Denso 067100-1680, 6v, 9.8A I'm sure it was the same on my '84 BJ60 as well.

found it!

ngk y-107R for 12 volt system, (6 volt plug i believe) that's what i use, works well and about $20 each.

my '83 and '84 bj60 have the super glow system, and these are the glow plugs i use. just drop 'em in and let the timer do the rest.

k

Thanks everyone, I used the ngk # first and found four at Napa, 22 bucks each. Thanks, Darryl

Will these work on an '85 BJ70 w/3B as well?

should do, if your 85 70 is a 12 volt truck. 24volt 70's didn't start till mid 86 afaik.

the plugs i use in my 42 are physically the same as the ones in the 60, but 24v.

i think all the heads on a 3b are the same, 42, 60 and 70's. in the canadian market trucks. just 12 and 24 volt.

hope that helps.

At some retailers, the NGK part #Y-107R might have been superceeded by the new number 1229. I checked at the local Napa and was told that the new part number is 1229. Apparently NGK re-numbered their glow pugs recently?

Pilfered, checked, confirmed/updated from a post of Greg Reimer’s on the DTLC a number of years ago. Caveat: These numbers are the specs for Cdn Cruisers...

Many times you can source the correct plugs by going to a diesel shop that works on, or can get Nippon Denso stuff. Use the Denso number, and you’re golden.

OK I picked up 4 NGK Y-107R's from Napa for 22.66 each. But when I compare them to the plugs I pulled out, they are a lot shorter as you can see in the pic below (sorry for the crappy quality, only had my cell phone camera to work with). The NGK plug is on the left and the old plug on the right.

Picture(1).jpg

On the NGK plug itself states, Y107R, 10.5V

On the plug I puleed out it statesND 067100-1680 6V and also 19850-68051

Do I have the right plugs or what?

3B plugs

I got mine from some online place (cheap like 11 bucks each) but my neighbor found them 3.5 weeks later in street behind my house. I got the Y-197R though for my 86 (24V). They were exactly the same size. It looks like they stick out of the head farther because the NGK is threaded all the way to the top but they don't. From the base of the thread to the tip of the plug it’s the same distance on mine. Do those 107's fit in ok? If so maybe see if the NGK's sit deeper in the head? Doesn't look like it from the pic but who knows. Oh yeah don't over torque 30 Newton meters!

Just a thought

I've used the 3030 before, and recall there being a slight difference in the look.

Did you give the Napa guys the ND number, and see what they came up with for a cross over number? Have them phone thier supplier if they say they don't know at the counter. Their supplier "should" be able to access a book and cross the numbers to confirm for you.

Well I took in the NGK part number that I got from the above posts and they looked it up and went from there. I haven't tried to fit them yet because I don't think I'll be able to return them if they've been test fitted. But like NStimac said, they are threaded differently than the ones that came out of the head and the NGK plugs will not stick out as far as the old ones. But what about the voltage 6V versus 10.5V?

Has anyone here used the NGK's Y107R in their 3B?

The voltage I have listed with the Toyota number is the given range for the plug. 10.5V is right in there. I put a pair of shoes on and return them if they don't fit. If they refuse to take the plugs back if they are not the correct one you need to find a new parts store and build a relationship (or use this to start building it).

CrustyBJ60 will hopefully post up....

As I said above, use the ND number and you're golden...
