What exactly does the cup on some of the body mounts do? I presume it helps keep the mount from sliding around. Is it necessary? I am thinking of the two in front that I am going to have to remake. Can I not just put a washer there to make the height the same?

That's actually part of the body mount itself. The mount has rusted apart and that piece is left.

I don't agree, on mine they where spotwelded to the frame. and not just rusted stuck. I am pretty sure, since I have had the frame sandblasted, aciddipped and galvanized, I think that would have "unstuck" them...

The "cup" is spotwelded in three spots to the bracket. I had to drill three welds out to get hte cup off.

I am not sure it stops mushrooming or not. It is only 3/16" or 1/4" deep for the body mount, not sure that would stop it from expanding. I do agree it does stop the movement.

Those are definitely part of the frame - worked on a JDM that had no rust. The are there just to keep it from moving, not so much to stop the bushings from flattening and bulging out as they still do that over time anyways. If you go for poly bushings then you should not have any problems.

Heh...guess the pos I was working on, they just rusted the rest of the way off. A big assed thick washer will accomplish the same thing.

Part Removed

Here is a picture of the part with the 3 spot welds removed. I will make a few new ones up on the lathe and weld them back on. I was hoping to hear someone say "not needed", but it doesn't sound like I am going to get that answer.

Where is a good source for the poly bushings?

Or use boat rollers. Costs a lot less and made out of the same thing. Lowtide was talking about it, I think there was a good discussion in the Uranus build.

Man that $hit is DOPE! nice work man, I'd say if you could actually see them then it would totaly be worth the 6 hours...

I just bought 2 boat rollers today for $22.00 at West Marine they are black medium hard poly 2 1/2 in dia. and 12 inches long and they have a nice nylon center sleve "cut to fit". Thanks to "Lowtide" for this info!

Do you need some of those cups?

I have a few mounts left from my 45 extended cab project. I cut off the mount assemblies from the 60 frame. I was cleaning the shop and saw that I forgot to throw two of them away.

Pay the postage and thier are yours.

Thanks for the offer, but I already beat you to making them.

replacing body mounts

I need to replace my body mounts to pass safety check. How did those boat rollers work out for you? I'm worried that once I start turning those nuts the whole thing's going to come apart. Are the studs integrated or are they separate bolts? Do you think I can get away with just regular old washers instead of $200 worth of stuff from specter?
Thanks for any help.

Is your rig a 60 series? If so, they use bolts and double nuts.

body mounts

Thanks. That sounds doable. Do you think I should spend bucks on urethane bushings or just go with the boat roller job?
