Hi there,

I'm a new member of the 2-Cruiser Club, I have a 60 with lots of fun mods and have really enjoyed building this 60 --> AND yes, I'll post some pics and an intro about the 40 shortly.

BUT...I've got a couple quick questions:

1. REALLY high idle(2F, stock carb): I've gone through the steps I usually go through to set the idle on the 60 (choke out, fast idle set, then regular idle, etc...). Idle screws don't touch the idle speed at all. Ideas?? return springs? throttle cable itself?

2. It came with the SOR fender guards that attach to the brush guard and then to Frame. They are still in the wrapping...They look cool from pictures and my 60 is the dedicated, harder wheeling vehicle right now. Should I put them on? Or are these Damage Mulitpliers?

3. I have a verrry slight leak in one of the heater pipes that goes to the PS side of heater controls. I followed them into the engine bay - clamps are tight, etc. Do these pipes ever crack or split or anything? I haven't dug too deep into this one, yet.

Thanks!!

I did a search on the fender guards and could not find much info on them. I would also like to know what experience others have with fender guards. Have they helped protect your rig on the trails?

Thanks.

Sounds like the fender guards aren't attached...

The following type of fender guards seem easily bendable to me. Anyone have experience with this type of armor?

Thanks.

For your idle, I would check to make sure everything is moving freely. Do you have a factory manual? It should be a first purchase.

Make sure the cable (throttle or choke) hasn't been installed incorrectly. I would loosen all the connections and make sure each return spring is working rule that out and start messing with the carb, perhaps even the timing.

Good Luck.

Quick update

Thanks Rezarf! I'll try to bring it to the next RS meeting.

I fixed the idle...new return spring and adjustments on the carb fixed that right up. It passed emissions, too!

the heater leak was a crushed heater line. I "uncrushed it" and it doesn't seem to leak anymore.

The fenderguards are staying off. I clamped them on to test fit...they look pretty cool...but I need the funds for fixing the e-brake and doing the knuckle job. They ain't going on the 40. They're still in the SOR wrapping if anyone wants to Purchase.

Many more things to tinker with:

The next battle is fixing the backfire (through exhaust). I've done the carb cleaner trick around the manny's; no rpm change, the smog pump is hooked up and I think the ABV valve no workie. Thus...causing an unbelievable backfire.

I'm buying some used horns today, but can't seem to locate the relay. Is that on the DS side near the W.Washer bottle? the harness has the connectors coming off the headlights. OH, w. washer no workie, either.

I love learning about my 40...I'm starting to realize how little I know about both my 60 and 40.

thanks again for all your continued help.

Check for exhuast/intake manifold leaks. My 40 would act like it was running rich one minute then lean the next. Can cause the afterfire (running too rich) out the tail pipe.
Good luck and congrats.
