I have a chevy 350 TBI which had a 700R4 behind it, so I needed to intsall a vehcile speed sensor. I assumed that was for the tranny and to calibrate the shifting, But I have assumed before and that makes me an... well I think you know.

Now I am putting in a manual trans so my question is..

Do I still need the vehicle speed sensor for the fuel delivery system?

And do I ground the park neutral switch so it stays in open or closed loop or whatever it is supposed to be?

A TBI engine needs a 2 pulse VSS no matter what tranny is being used. The VSS actually takes care of all idle functions, everything below 2 mph. This includes automatic choke functions, proper idle per cold or hot engine, first gear-low range drivability, etc etc etc!!! Painless Wiring has really neat instructions on your brake light wiring question ( I just don't remember off the top of my head).

You also need VSS for proper operation of the EGR (if you have it), decel fuel cut, highway spark mode (a little extra advance cruising at highway speeds), and a few other things I'm sure. What manual trans are you going to use?

I am trying to find the VSS buffer from a 91+ GM TPI car and wire it in to use the VSS built into the 60 series speedometer. The buffer turns the 4 pulse magnetic signal from the speedo to 2 pulse for the ECM. If I find it, I can post up what vehicle and location. If you know the car and where to find it, please let me know. I'm tired of pulling dashes apart looking. Note, this is not the DRAC that was used on the trucks with 40 pulse digital signal, but a VSS buffer.
