I might have the pics someplace..... I lost my website (long story).

And I still have not done anything with this. Though, when the 2-FE wagon is down for a 4 speed swap and rear diff rebuild, I might just have to tear into that too.

I'd appreciate it. And yes, I know what it's like to lose a website (even without a backup). Too bad there was nothing regarding the 62 Volvo pump in the WayBack machine at Archive.org ...

Hopefully we can make some progress this on our rigs this summer Aaron :D

I've got a MIG now and have a bit of skill with it, and I've got my eyes on a plasma cutter at some point hopefully within the next year. If you need access to a shop, give me a holler and we can get together on a weekend out at my place. I'll provide steaks if you provide the beer. Britt can vouch for my steaks too...

Has anyone done this? Still searching, so I'll put a link here if I find an answer.

Holy Hell....

I still have the parts, but I haven't driven my wagon for a couple years :crybaby:

Have you figured out the mount for the 3FE? That's the only part I'm unsure of. We're going to do this conversion on my buddy's 62 this weekend so I was trying to get some ideas before digging in.

I haven't looked under the hood at all. Sad. On the bright side, my 14 year old is finally becoming interested in cars, and wants to drive the wagon, so I guess he'll need to figure that out pretty soon!

Sounds like you are moving forward faster than me. Post pictures. Make a mock-up out of hard board or good card board.

Look in my thread. I built one with an old chevy saginaw mount. And a couple dom spacers

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using IH8MUD

Which thread? You've started 55 since 2005, none specifically about your FJ62 from what I could see.

Thanks for chiming in!

In my situation no need for a smog pump. AND.. it's easier to run power steering lines straight to the box from there.. Saved me from running them around the front of the frame.. Use old return line.. it's low pressure.
Much like the older FJ60 power steering setup, which had the pump mounted on the Driver side high... Bonus is I wanted to use the old PS mount for a york. And yes.. None of this is in my FJ62, sorry for the confusion.. it's in the 45.. But still applies.. Fittings were pretty easy. I have the PN's I used to goto AN somewhere. Iffin you all need those.. And sadly I haven't fired it up with belts.. I did order belts a while back.. just hadn't gotten back to the front of that project, been working on it's behind.

Here was my delima.. Keep a toyota pump, expensive, less power, in a crappy location.. OR goto a $25 Volvo pump. Which I have history with.. I ran one on my FJ40 for a decade plus.. ON 38"s and it never gave up. I can easily get spares, and I will sell the old 62 pump to someone that wants to stay oem. OPen up the spot for the york, utilize the 62 air filter housing for clean air into the york.
Wanted the york instead of the arb compressor... Just cause I can and they work as well.. simple, cheap effective.

It took me about 5 min to build that mount. Just stuff I had lying around. Longest part was cutting the DOM tube spacers the correct width without a band saw.. And used the stock FJ62 bracket that went up to the smog pump. Puts the stiffener close to the alt pulley but i'll deal with it.. Don't plan on changing belts all that often and if i need to "bend" it later I easily can.

For those of you who need to keep your smog pump on your FJ62, you can install a saginaw pump in the factory location, with the factory bracket, with the factory high pressure hose.

Step 1, buy a PS pump from an old Volvo 240, with the pulley. Cost, less than $100.

Step 2, remove the original pump and trim the back half of the PS bracket.

Step 3, mount the saginaw pump with two front bolts, some washers and a couple of spacers.

Step 4, put on the original belt, screw in the factory high pressure line and return, and voila!

In this picture you can see how the outer lip of the reservoir is bent in for clearance when using the original belt. If you got a belt that was 1" longer, this would be a non-issue.

How much of an improvement did this make?

How much of an improvement did this make?

It's a moderate boost in pressure, but with a pump that is readily available and easy to find, unlike the factory pump.

My stock pump was replaced 10 years ago

Steering box replaced with a rebuilt unit about 4 years ago

So in about 3 or 4 years I'll look into this. Along with 80 steering box and 105 sector shaft. And hydroassist !

Not sure how I missed Johnny's post, but that's pretty sweet. I'll have to keep it in mind once my pump starts having issues.

Matt, what's the story with the 105 sector shaft?

100 series shafts are a burly upgrade to the 80 series boxes

Interesting. Is it really necessary if you're not running large tires though? Once I can actually tackle my H55 conversion I plan on putting on 33" tires, so would the 80 series gearbox (with or without the 100 series shaft) be worth it to swap out the still good 62 gearbox I've got now?

Hydro assist makes it less necessary. But I'm running stock 60 box in Bob. Noworries yet.
