definitely more power, usually 3 sec off the 0-100 time. i will test this out on the LJ78 next time i am driving it. it isn't a race horse by any stretch but definitely more fun to drive.
cheers

some times is a good feeling push the throtle and leave a pair of cars back :D

i never meant to say this was a cure all, to me i do it for fun and power. if it has other side benefits then great. i kinda like this guy, he takes a stand opposite to what most believe. a bit of a pompass ass but i can see he knows his stuff and is willing to create a debate based on his experiences. night.

I think you mistake the intent of the information, and don't you mean an opposite stance from what most salesmen tout? I intentionally did not pull quotes (the pros or cons) from those threads, because if I picked and choose I could show only show one side of the picture too. This fellows comments counteract some marketing misinformation that is out there, and provides balance to the discussion. This is main intent of my bring this up...information is good. I still will not pull some of the other relevant information from the website or those threads over to balance what you choose to quote, as I trust people will investigate, educate, then accept an install from an educated perspective. Yes, there are benefits. There are also ramifications. Moderation seems the key for propane and diesel. Either way, make an educated choice, and then build away!

Poo will get an intercooler, have the boost turned and see what the stock turbo can put out and how long it will last, propane injection (the kit I got off you), yada yada. I don't expect longevity, but if it does...then great!

Gordon gets boost to 10-12psi max, no propane, as this truck is all about drivetrain reliability and longevity for me...right now.

i might have mislead with the quotes i posted, it wasn't to run the bloke down it was to show
that he agreed with propane in SMALL amounts.
that he agreed that propane does lower EGTS.
that he agreed that propane does increase power
that he warned against large amounts are dangerous

and that he mentioned that the propane cylinders are very strong and safe which is one thing i was concerned about when mounting the tank on the back door...

cheers and peace

<BTW, i really do not promote the sale of propane injection kits, ask anyone that calls about them. unless they are looking for much more power then i recommend they do not buy the kit. if i was looking just to sell kits would i talk people out of buying them?>

Wayne.

Be nice to see over time home long lived this engine is with 14psi which is the top end of the boost you should seriously run on a 2LTE by all accounts.

Mind you, you have done a few things that should also increase the reliability so it may not have an impact on the life of the engine.

I think the Exhaust will have the most marked effect on the life of the engine (plus maybe the propane). Seems to make it run far more efficiently and keep the EGTs down.

Great job done and nice looking truck.

i agree Andy, with the mods and my foot it will be interesting to see. isn't that what a test rig is all about?
the only real concern so far that i have is the head gasket issue.
it is fun to play...
cheers

Where dem snorkel pics at? :D
.
Berni drives this to work each day so it makes it hard to take the pics so...
i went out at 3AM and took these shots...
;^)

the snorkel is turned towards the windsheild on the advice of a long term friend. he said the airflow from the wind on the windsheild is greater than the force when pointed straight forward so i gave it atry and it does force the air into the snorkel harder this way...
cheers

the only downside i have come across so far is the loss of the cyclon action for the air flow...

Amazing how something so simple as a larger exhaust can keep the EGT's to a reasonable level. That and inceasing the boost slightly are two of the easiest things to do. If you are not hitting over 900, and are happy with the performance, I would leave well enough alone if longevity is your main objective. I'll be reporting the results of a larger exhaust in Gordon when that is done, to add to the databank. Where was the spinner?

I think a lot of the problem is that the manufacturers whilst spending a lot of money and time on designing the vehicles, have to design them to a compromise taking in a whole lot of requirements from different countries for instance emissions, noise, cost etc. The exhaust on the 2LT/2LTE is a known weak spot on the Hilux Surf and therefore I would think on the LJ, it can't clear out the turbo quick enough causing the turbo and the exhaust manifold to heat up far more than it should with a decent size of exhaust on it allowing quicker clearing. also the Turbo spools up better with a bigger exhaust and therefore the engine has to work less hard at the bottom end and when going up hills - better torque lower down.

I think it is a shame that Toyota couldn't fit a bigger exhaust to all of the engines 1HDT included as it is a known quick fix for a lot of issues.

Looks good Wayne, though I do feel vaguely guilty for making you get up in the middle of the night to take a photo.

I'd like to put a snorkel on my truck, but that would be a bit of a poseur thing to do since the truck's not even been off road yet. Still waiting for some frigging lifter shims to get the frigging head back on!

Anyway, thanks for the pics and the info.

I know your pain Robin. We had to wait 3 weeks for 1 stinkin shim... a 2.5 mm I think that had to come from Lexus. ?? Showed up in Toyota EPC as avail but when we went to order no such luck. YOu dont want your pristine paint job and windshield sprayed with rocks anyways...:D

Johnny

no problem, i had to let the dog out to take care of business and figured while i was up anyway...

i need to test and see if the snorkel really does drop the egts or not but it does allow the turbo to spool easier since it isn't pulling hte air trought the air box any longer but is having help...

cheers

<did you try Dan at 4wheel for the shims?>

As long as who's friendly...the dogs or the wives?:D My wife is quite friendly unless provoked...

May Long Weekend, eh...hmmm, I have a big reunion-type thingy here in Lethbridge, but sounds like a good time.

And don't worry, I'm not a heavy drinker. In fact, I only weigh about 155. :D

Cheers,
Robin
