I am not familiar with the standard arm spring length, as there appears to be several part numbers for the non-compound wiper arm. I can confirm that the spring for the compound wiper arm is about 10mm shorter than the non-compound arm. Other than that, they are identical. I believe you could...

My ‘81 BJ41 does not have this feature. The hazard knob just pulls straight out to turn on the hazard blinkers.
