Those dental picks are the key. I picked up a set when I wrapped my wheel. Like yourself, I was surprised how much slack was in the thread I thought was tight.

Finally got off road with her. Didn't got on some of the muddier trails, was worried I might get stuck but it handled well, everything we encountered.

When I bought my truck it had the windshield mirrors. There were painted screws in the door mirror holes. You could barely notice them.

To be honest, I don't know. I found some in the basement that fit the holes and used them.

I have one of the fj40dash.com dashes. I don't even notice the label anymore. It's partially blocked by the steering wheel.

Do you have any of that cut-off dash pad left. You might be able to grind/sand down the inside guts of it where you just have maybe a 1/16 thinck of the front finished portion. Then glue/epoxy that to the unfinished side piece?
