Sure, I was basically going to scrape it clean, treat it with a neutralizer then coat it with something (POR 15 maybe). I haven't had the time. The frame rust looks bad, but it's surface. The body rust, on the other hand, has eaten through in some places.
Unfortunately, I'm selling my '88 FJ62. I bought it a year ago but have to get rid of it because of my job taking me elsewhere. Mechanically, this thing is in impressive shape with only 154,000ish miles on it. The frame is rusty and parts of the body have some good rust on them as well...
Does anyone have a vid for a rear axle rebuild for a 62? Can't seem to find anything on this. Anything on cleaning and coating an undercarriage would be awesome.
I still have it. I would honestly drive it cross country today with no hesitation. I'll just need to ensure the spare tire is inflated and serviceable.
No issues. I had the resident cruiser guy here in Raeford, Darin of Canucks Cruisers, look it over and he gave it an overall clean bill of health. Mechanically, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It runs great. It has a trans pan gasket leak, but a drain and fill and gasket...
I just posted my '88 FJ on here. It definitely doesn't meet your requirements for rust-free, but it is definitely mechanically sound with only 154,000 miles on it. It's all original. Check it out: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1988-fj62-154-000-miles-north-carolina.820219/
